Suggestion Actual constructive ideas on increasing PvP without decreasing server population

It's common knowledge they're only in PvP at this point. Also just ask and anyone will say so.

You probably got a common chest.
Also: leather is a good thing. So is string. Leather cause selling/armor. And string for reagents. And how is a pick useless? Having a pick on you is always good. Again, you probably got a common chest.

Lastly: digging down is not hard at all. Just use that unbreaking pick you got.
My main point was meant to be custom loot for each class. then you have a good chance of getting something really useful

Kainzo wants to both areas have the same oportunities but treasure hunt is not following that idea... you can see the same high level players gets 3 or 4 of each 8 chest over and over... What TH (treasure hunting) is doing is gettign high level characters more rich and umbalancing payer run economy by gifting tons of hard to get materials like leather.

My option is:

make a fair PvP with a system that gives a penalty or denies a higher player fighting a lower one (with a difference of 30 or 40 levels). PvP players wants more people on PvP but they dont give new people a chance to get used to PvP, whenever they see someone with a lower level they hut him down, there is no fun to be killed by a lv 60 when you barely are 20-30, but high level people will say this idea is not fun etc etc.

one ide aI have for this system is like a "greedy mark" where a player who kills another with so much levels of difference wiill get this mark and can be hunted by anyone anywhere like a bounty the difference with a common bounty will be that is the server who pays it cost as a way to enforce that kind of people to avoid killing low levels.

another idea could be a "mercy" option/skill that only can be activated when at least one player with more than X levels than you is hitting you (or the total levels of all players hitting you is equals to X) if the player choose to activate he becomes inmune for a period of time like the double it takes to make a recall. this way almost all low level players can run alive from attacks of the high level players, making the fight whit a low level player less fun for the high level. and If the low level player attacks the protections dissapears. this mercy skill could have a cold down of once every 5-10 minutes.

Sorry if you dont consider this a complaint or a solution.. forgot J2gay was obviously the lead moderator for this conversation ;)
Actually this conversation went off rail quite some time ago. I was simply asking a question. A question that points out that here you are making useless, trollish comments that are taking up space in a conversation that had the potential to be productive.

This seems to be a common theme whether on the forums or in game @Animeman1996 being useless and trollish, taking up space that might have otherwise held something of value.

Just an FYI the people you see complaining constantly do not want PvP in the way you imagine. They want a steady supply of helpless victims. Their vision of the perfect HeroCraft is one with absolutely no safe haven anywhere, and a steady supply of fresh meat for the grinder. They know that this will result in a massive loss of veteran players. They know that it will be just the 30 or so of them and a steady yet constantly diminishing supply of noobs to kill left on the server until it dies. Anyone with half a functioning brain can see it plain as day (though perhaps assuming they posses half or more of a functioning brain might be giving them too much credit). They know that their dream for HeroCraft will result in its death. They just don't care.

They are banking on getting as much enjoyment as they can before it dies then finding somewhere else. Let's face it if they really wanted PvP they would be playing a game designed for it. They play Minecraft exactly because it is not PvP focused. They couldn't hack it in actual PvP games, they kept getting their ass handed to them. So they turned to a game like Minecraft where the majority of the players are there for reasons other than PvP. Then looked for the server with the most exploitable rules.

When their play style quickly began to kill the server the server started to adapt making rules and changing the structure of the game to specifically combat the destruction they were wreaking. Their reaction was to lash out, blaming all players that want something more from the game, a game designed for everything but PvP, than just PvP everywhere all the time. They claim that these players that want some PvP, but want to control the time and place of the engagement, are ruining the server for everyone. Well they may be ruining it for the 30 or so players that only want to fight helpless victims and slaughter noobs, but they are saving it for everyone else.

So we are going to keep our game the way we like it. Making small concessions here and there to keep the PvP croud that has other interests, has respect for other players, conduct themselves with honor and dignity, and searches for evenly matched PvP for the challenge and enjoyment of it rather than looking for lesser opponents they know they can beat so that they can then spam the chats with "U bite we own" and other useless garbage in order to shore up their abismally low self esteem. The rest of the PvP croud. The ones who search out the players that they know are weak so that they can bully them with weapons and words. Offering nothing of real value to the game. There is no longer a place for that here. Quit your whining and adapt to the new way of things, or leave. No one else really care which just chose one.

You are going off of stereotypes for everything, not what most people actually do. If all the PVP crowd wanted was to mindlessly slaughter people as you say, they would play on visions not on the actual server.

While I respect what you've been trying to do, I suggest you back out of this post. There's no point in trying to argue with anyone here because everyone wants what they want and won't budge. Everyone thinks they have the best idea.

No because then fights would be fair ;)

I've read your posts, visions is a pretty accurate example of what you have been describing.

@minimike96 I'll fight fair or outnumbered a little :p
But I don't go after someone with tons more people unless they have lvls over me to even it out some or a bounty :p

On-topic:
I've been seeing the server get into the early 100s lately, yet PvP just keeps declining. I spent several hours the other day traveling around the southern continent for TH and I ran into exactly one person. Thirty seconds later the fight was over (unrelated: runeblade is an insane 1v1 class) and I never ran into anyone again.

I understand that a lot of veteran players left, but their places have been filled by legions of people who are basically Lenorian in that they build up in PVE and never come over to PVP for whatever reason. Is it fear? Indifference?

tl;dr - there are still lots of people (relative to the numbers of late, not like Haven) but 95% don't dare to leave PVE. What we need to do is figure out a way to attract new players to PvP because every newbie seems terrified.
(Can we re-rail this? It had good suggestions and it devolved into a flame war. Perhaps we should put our concerns about the server first.)

This is honestly one of the stupidest posts I've read on this forum. Not only is almost all of your information wrong, it is obviously based on your pure hatred for the vocal PvP community and is biased to the point where I had trouble reading through it. This terrible "PvP croud" (crowd I think you mean) has historically been the most active and involved portion of the playerbase, and it also made up the majority.

I was thinking of writing up a novel on this issue of PvE vs PvP, but it's pointless. People have tried, and I'm sure you can see how successful that has been. At this point I'm having trouble finding motivation to play. Herocraft used to offer an incredibly diverse community, and lots of fun PvP, which was the drive for a large majority of the playerbase. You can sit here all you want and complain about those gosh dern PvPers, but at the end of the day, PvE has killed off the playerbase of PvP. It's not really something that can be argued. Sure, maybe we did bitch, maybe we did complain, maybe we had trouble adapting to change, but that's irrelevant. Herocraft isn't the hardcore server it used to be, and that is a turn off for a lot of people. So I know that for me personally, until conditions improve I won't be playing Herocraft as much as I used to. There's nothing fun to do anymore.

Took the words out of my mouth. I don't find it motivating to play either and this explained it.

Also @j2gay you say going back to the old ways the server used to be, will drive off the veteran players. Every single day when I log on their is 7 or 8 people I recognize. There are no veteran players they're all gone and moved on. You remember DG and Bastion. Those two maps we had an actual community. There were towns every hundred or so blocks and everyone knew each other I could hit tab with 100+ players and recognize basically everyone.

I'll sum it up in one sentence. Playing these last few maps starting with Haven was like joining a new server. Its a server I log on and have fun for 2-3 weeks then only log on to maintain a town and build. The economy got fucked when souls were introduced, Our townships system is buggier then ever, Arenas aren't easily accessible and plenty of more issues I could go on for hours. To put it straight these past few maps have been absolute fucking messes and I really wish I had a time machine to bring back HC 3 years back

J2gay.. ohh boy.. what can I say.. A wise man once said "You can't fix stupid"...... I shall leave it at that.

I agree with Weeeewooo.. the only thing fun anymore is the first couple of weeks while building a town and fighting off people doing the same.. after that everyone hides in their town and afk's the entire time.. im just logging on to keep my PR active.

Who is complaining? I haven't complained just laid out a few facts. I do not hate any portion of the community. Hate like love takes a good deal of energy. Unlike love those worthy of hate generally aren't worth the time. What you interpret as hatered is merely pity.

I too have a hard time getting motivated to play. Has nothing to do with PvP or PvE. Has to do with after more than three years of spending a large portion of my free time playing minecraft there are not a lot of things I haven't been there done, including a fair amount of PvP, and quite frankly I usually find more productive things to do with my time. There are a lot of games I feel this way about. No doubt you could say the same. Stop looking for someone/something to blame.

I do remember DG and Bastion, those maps filled the same pattern. Huge influx of returning veterans saying yeah new map I'm back baby, and a whole lot of new people. Half burn out in the first month. There are a lot of or reasons that I you see mostly new faces, most of them have both ng to do with PvE. There are also a lot of things broken ATM, again most of them have nothing to do with PvE.

Eh maybe I will finish this post later. If there are typos in this or any other post I have made in the last week or so, I am posting on a phone, if auto correct doesn't catch it I don't have time to give a damn. (Droid auto correct breaks more shit than it fixes) Oh and I meant croud FYI.

Remove pve and disable pvp until level 10. It worked like a charm in Bastion and it would work well again this map.

The pvp disabled players were honestly not a problem when you were raiding.
You have to remember this isn't Bastion, and what happened there and worked there is not a 100% Fix nowadays.
