After the map launch, we'll need to keep an ear out if anyone's saying certain items are uncraftable.

Some items have more than one data value (ie wooden steps, beds) so it's possible we might need to try different data values.

And there's also the possibility of error in the code :D.

IMHO, I reckon restricting the crafting of iron picks, axes, shovels, hoes and swords to Smith is too harsh.

Seasoned players might accept it as part of the map launch, but new players joining later will find it very discouraging to have to level Crafter with just stone or wood tools, and they won't have the contacts or currency to obtain iron tools.

How about enabling Crafter to make iron tools/weapons?

Please confirm or comment on these:
  • Boats –> Crafter – because boats are basic non-mechanical transportation, don’t stack, are needed by new players
  • Beds –> Crafter – because Crafter also has Paintings, and Beds are purely decorative so there’s nothing to be gained by restricting them to Farmer
  • Compass –> Crafter
  • Quartz Block / Pillar / Stairs –> Crafter – on the same basis that Crafter has Nether Bricks / Fence and also Glowstone etc.
  • New minerals for 1.8 –> to Miner
  • Bookshelves –> Farmer in addition to Enchanter – Bookshelves are crafted from Farmer-produced materials, and are needed for town upgrades as well as for enchantment tables
  • Carrot on a Stick –> Farmer
  • Golden Carrot –> Alchemist – because of its potion-type properties
  • Golden Apple –> Alchemist – because of its potion-type properties
  • Enchanted Golden Apple –> Alchemist – as above, but has consequences which are covered in the next point
  • Gold Blocks, Gold Ingots –> Alchemist in addition to Miner, because Alchemists need to unmake/make Gold Blocks for Enchanted Golden Apples
  • Fireworks items –> Engineer
  • Jukebox AND Note Block –> Merchant as well as Engineer

Looks clean, well done!

A couple grooming points:
Glowstone and Glowstone Dust are listed twice in CRAFTER;

IMO, the following should be in CRAFTER:
Fishing Rod (fish are a scarce enough);
Iron Tools, Armor, & Weapons (Let SMITHS keep chainmail along with alchemists, and figure out a way to give them the ability to tag stuff/use the Anvil, like the should be able to);

Other considerations:
  • These restrictions are pretty tight...I think some loosening should occur. Not everyone is a town-type (there are plenty of Lone Wolfs that play HC, for various reasons), yet everyone is restricted to one profession. For this reason, it is important to look at items that are necessary for enjoyable gameplay, whether the person is in a town (and thus plugged into a larger social network) or not;
  • Items that are fundamental to the progress of the individual profession should be allowed to be created by that profession:
  • MINERS deserve the ability to create all pickaxes and shovels, as they are fundamental to their profession;
  • FARMERS deserve the ability to create all hoes and axes, as they are fundamental to their profession;
  • Item Frame should be removed from CRAFTER and put back exclusive to RUNESMITH as it once was; if we are worried about frames being a source of lag, then we should restrict their production as they once were.
  • Per the wiki, ALCHEMISTS presently have the ability to sell the following:
  • Beds, Books, Bowls, Bricks, Clay Balls, Coal, Ender Eyes, Flint, Glowstone Dust, Paintings, Paper, Saddles, Signs, Snowballs, Sticks and Sugar
    I am unsure if those will go away or not with these new restrictions; if not, they need to be added, as will all the Cauldron Recipes;
  • Each Profession should be able to sell the items they can make, forage, mine, harvest, or otherwise acquire. I am unsure if this recipe restriction thread also restricts their ability to sell items to the ones listed, or if that is another project. Clarificaiton would be great. :)
  • ENCHANTERS need a way to sell their creations, and I am unsure if this is the time & place to code that.

You dont have to have a town to get these things - you just have to visit a store or be more vocal in trade. This is what we want. The goods are, we can change these almost on the drop of a hat if feel they are too tight. It is far better to over shoot a change like this to undershoot and then change "after" release.

Can you please include all the changes in the proper format? this includes spacing you MUST use a [ code] tag on them. If you do not, i will manually have to fix each. Also - im not 100% we can use the #comment sign after the number, but we can give it a try.

There are no examples of the brackets you are speaking of in the examples you have given so far. If you had them in the examples, for some reason they are not showing up. I think Witch & I would need precise and accurate examples to fulfill this request, as we are not coders. Thanks. ;)

Format is right - using the [ code] tag is part of the forums, it makes sure not to parse out spaces, etc. YML formatting REQUIRES a certain amount of spaces or it wont load.

The first post has a fast and dirty list of who should have what

The fast and dirty list was indeed dirty - it had many errors and omissions.

Posting as code is Step 2 and will take just 2 seconds. At this stage, the format is just a distraction.

The CONTENT needs to be checked off as the first step.

Everyone, to insert as code at the forums, click the Insert button (3rd to the right of Smilies) and then select Code...

Code:
... like this :)

which I certainly will do once the content is checked off.

You've brought up some great points, @Yavool

As you say, these changes make some chestshop skills unusable because the class can no longer craft items they have perms to sell.

I've fixed these:
  • Item Frame to Runesmith, not Crafter
  • Glowstone/dust duplication in Crafter
I understand this code is ONLY for crafting tables, and not for:
  • furnaces
  • enchanting tables
  • brewing stands
  • cauldrons

Thanks for your input too, @Dsawemd

I've moved these from Engineer to Miner:
  • Minecart
  • Minecart with Chest
  • Minecart with Furnace
  • Rail
  • Powered Rail
  • Detector Rail
  • Activator Rail
  • TNT
  • Minecart with TNT
  • Minecart with Hopper
Any comments on any of these?
