I was mining a few days a go when I remembered a video about modded minecraft. In the episode I watched these minecrafters used a mod based around "Transmuting" items into rarer one (wood to coal to iron to gold to diamond. In the end though, they only got 5 diamonds by starting with 9 stacks of wood logs) Suddenly it dawned on me, "Why doesn't the alchemist have a skill like this??"

Maybe not as Under powered or over powered as you might think this is, but something along the lines of this would be cool.

Skills: Transmute wood, Transmute coal, Transmute iron, Transmute gold (Level acquired, probably each about 5-8 levels apart. Not a solidsuggestion for the levels acquiring these skills, cause I've never played as an alchemist before) Transmute wood: The 9 wood logs in your hand get transformed into 3 coal. Transmute coal: The nine coal in your hand gets transformed into 1 iron ingot. Transmute iron: the 5 iron ingots in your hand transform into1 gold ingot. Transmute gold: The 15 gold ingots in your hand get transformed into 1 diamond. (Maybe a transmute diamond skill for something even more valuable?)

Anywho, these are my thoughts. Any comments negative or positive, or even to alter this idea are appreciated.

If I can remember correctly alchemist used to have an alchemy skill where iron was turned to gold and coal or lapis or something to diamond. I can not remember why it was removed though. I think it was replaced with forge chain mail. (sorry for the colours I was bored)

As an alchemist i can tell you that there are skills that transmute lapis blocks into diomands, and coal into diomands. also iron to gold (though i cant really see too much use on that one) so this wouldnt do much for us. Though it would be nice to have a few that are a bit more useful, or at least a way to use the cauldron at a faster rate, the rate of making stuff with it is god awful slow (things like ice)

What makes you think it got removed?

Alchemist for the current transmute skills.

Ah, I see why - the ingame skills list for Alchemist doesn't provide that level of detail. Refer to the wiki page linked above.

The way that this transumtion skill was suggested I assumed that maybe the old skill was removed that was why he was unaware of the skil. Sorry I didn't check the wiki :p
