It's not just the planning it is the general management and running of the map rules etc is what I think Kainzo is looking for. Which I am offering to do.

What I have as a general plan for this map is to create a large world for people to RP in as well as have places for people to explore and visit but not necessarily build on (to stop random crap shacks and ruined beaches/desert/forests and other kinds of landscape). Something on this scale will obviously take a long time to build and there fore will be a long term project.

If you have experience in managing a map or a large area, go for it! :p I'm sure you would do good! :)

As for rules, I think the the map should be a no-build-zone for non-builders. Builders would be chosen by the map ruler and will help build new areas to explore, ect. Why should the map be a no build zone for other players? Well, have you SEEN the current map? :p It would be much better to have players work out puzzles instead of just breaking through mazes, ect, because I have seen that before and it is stupid!

I suggest we do the map like this:

- Let all the chunks load first and then check what we can work with.
- Plan out adventure areas for specific biomes, which would suit the area (for instance, pyramids in deserts would be better than pyramids in swamps, although that idea if still cool! :p)
- Find and mark down the locations we can build these areas, and create a boarder to where we want to build them at the location.
- Organise a full list of projects we would want to do, types of builds we want to do and the level of difficulty.
- Build it! :) Who builds what depends on what it is, for instance, it could be a redstone mechanism or maybe a castle/house.
- After finishing the build, we move onto the next one of release it to the players. If we wanted to add more builds to the map we would find an area of land, seal it off with a temp. wall, build, then remove the wall! :p

For things we can build, I can give you a huge list of ideas! All of them would be unique and would not have been done before! :)

What I thought of is pretty much the same as Majora, with a couple small differences.

Depending on how many builders we get, we should assign teams to different aspects to assure consistency. A few people do roads and bridges, a few do villages, a few do larger towns and cities, etc. While everyone working on one project at a time could go faster, it would also suffer from 'too many cooks' syndrome.

I also think instead of releasing it one project at a time, we should finish a majority of the map first, then add bits and pieces as 'new discoveries' over time.

Sometimes it's better to have something to show in an effort to get support, so, logistics time:
  1. Pick a build team
  2. Decide on a few people to have construction oversight/decision power to adjust and perfect what the teams are working on.
  3. Someone needs to host a map that supports a map such as herocraftonline.com/map. Due to the limited players, a real-time one should be fine and better for observation.
  4. Decide a map size.
  5. Examine the map via map view to determine best areas to build different things.
  6. Split the team up into assignments, give everyone creative power.
  7. Build!
  8. Build!
  9. Keep building!
  10. Review, adjust, and build more!
  11. Decorate!
  12. (Hopefully) get it released.
Primarily, who can host a build map 24/7? I'm assuming that we are working on this ourselves, because as Kainzo said, he needs other people to do this for him. I don't have a spare box, and don't want to leave this computer running all day if I don't have to.

Which is exactly where I was coming from You have a small group deciding what they want and you tell the builders and allow them a small bit of artistic design but they must keep to you're specifications. For instance if I wanted a city I would not just say build me a city. I would tell them how big I want it I would tell them whether I want in floating/underground/ground level, what sort of building materials I would like them to use and general style of the city.

As for hosting I might be able to sort that out. I'll look into it

Good plan! :p Yes creative mode would be required, I ain't going to mine all tgose resources. :)

As for the building plan, perfect! :p We could set up teams of people who want to build certain things/who are specialized in builds, such as castles, villages, dungeons, pyramids ect.. ect...

Looking at the map via a map viewer (like we can already do with HC) will be excellent! :) That would greatly help us to see what we can work with.

Preliminary tests indicate I can host a map on my laptop. We don't have so many players it'll get too laggy. Going to figure out how to get World Edit into the server as well as one of those cool map viewers. Start getting your teams together! Once I figure out how to limit map size and get it all rendered, we can build a few things to show Kainzo we can actually pull this off, haha. So, we need to decide on a good size for a world (and I need to give myself a crash course in Bukkit management :D). Will futz more tonight.

I have a powerful enough desktop to run for 20 players at the most so I'd propose hosting the server. I have much experience in setting up some plugins and permissions etc.

I already have
  • WorldEdit
  • WorldGuard
  • WorldBorder
  • PermissionsEX (w/ ModifyWorld for disabling random players from being able to make a griefing at all).
  • MultiverseCore/Portals/Nether-Portals
  • Commandbook
Just let me know exactly what you guys want done in it and we can definitely make something awesome for HC: Dungeon Seige (just made that up :p)

Thanks Danda, I'll get that set up when I get home.

What do you think a good radius for the adventure world would be? We don't want it too big, definitely not the size of Hero world. I'm thinking 1000 blocks?

Edit: Ninja'd by Gab, haha.

Here's what we need, then. Make a 1000 radius map with a border. Use some kind of map viewer to take an image of the entire map and put it up for viewinbg/download. Then, activate the server and whitelist us. Once we look at the map and plan a few things, we can start building it.

I say The best thing to do to prove our commitment is make a mind-blowing spawn first. I don't want it to be a city. Player should spawn in some kind of ruins, like an old temple. Once the spawn temple ruins is done, we can split up jobs based on what we saw on the map.

Thank you, are we all set to Creative too? :p

Also, could you send us a link to a full size view of the map, much like HC's current map? That way we can see what we can work with! :)

Also, should we have a build thread here on the forums so we can see what we need to build, what we are going to build and what we have built? That would help us gather our stuff! :) I'd say no building untill we are A-OK on the whole plan. I'd hate to see hard work go to waste because it might not ''work'' with a certain area of the map! :(

Okay, I'm almost done with the spawn/return portal. We need to make a city team while I finish this.

Here's the plan to have it all make sense: The spawn area is a ruins. There is a archeological dig site nearby. Explorers in Zeal discovered a portal to this unknown world and sent an expedition through to examine what it could be. Most of the world is still unexplored and unknown. Who knows what wonders and dangers they may find...

So yes, If everything goes as planned, there will be a storyline behind the whole thing, hopefully spanning the entire map. But first it needs to be built!

Marked up the map. Red x is spawn location. Orange circles are NPC villages. They will be worked into the map, don't touch them if you help build. Purple outlines are some named areas that will need a some kind of dungeon/landmark for RP adventures!

Wait so what city needs to be built where? Are you saying a city that is underneath a whole bunch of sand? That can be done with lots of time to detail etc.
