I actually played that awhile ago when it was in beta. Seemed kinda fun. Don't know what it's currently like though.

(Lets shift away from pokemon and back to M:TG before we go off topic for another 15 posts)

If only my parents allowed such games in my house (they considered card games to be a waste of time, they instead gave me Shakespeare's collection books and told me to read those).

Was considering taking a dip in the M:TG party but with no money to buy and no knowledge to play and no one to play with, it's rather discouraging.

Friday Night Magic is happening at your local comic book store, guaranteed. I'll bet if you call them they'll tell you that you can borrow a deck from behind the counter, just to try the game. It's a great way to get started, and they'll be accommodating of noobs.

I live in a town with a population of only 15K, and we have 3 venues for FNM, with official WotC prizes and everything. I'd be surprised if there wasn't anything close by where you are, even within a half-hour drive.

Issue being thus, I live in Santa Monica, California. There ARE comic book stores but Hi De Ho comics does the Friday Night Magic in an area where I can't drive as I don't have car insurance :( To bike is a pain with bike locks easily breakable.

It's not the issue of distance it's more the issue of being able to get home after it all. Plus to have money to start building decks.

Just start with a basic starter deck, and get booster packs when you have the money.

I don't recommend buying packs unless you are looking to build up a trade binder or a collection. If you're only looking to play with a deck, then I recommend only buying singles, it's a much more efficient way of getting the cards that you need for your deck. I personally buy booster boxes but that's only because I am interesting in building up a trade binder and a collection.

So there's a Grand Prix in Texas in a couple months. Maybe I should go pay Kainzo a visit.
