With the recent drama with Bukkit and Mojang, we may never see a "full" 1.8 server. We're working on Townships, balance and Adventure alpha at the moment. Future release dates will be announced soon via email.

If I am going to be honest
I would prefer the server update 1.8 to be postponed until most of the mods get updated.
In my opinion, the server is unplayable without marco
I know others want the samurai class, but I can wait for it, so it is not big on my ideal list of server progression
However towns 3.0 is something I have been looking forward to, and am very excited for.
That is my personal preference/opinion (not that it really means anything
)
