Exactly. kainzo expressed interest and Sleakers post is the perfect example of why we should have one. Having our own client unlocks infinite possibilities while bukkit is limiting.

The problem is thats a hella lot of coding and Sleaker and the other programmers are unpaid for this, this is just a hobby, and coding heroes updates, their own personal plugins, a client sided plugin on a scale similar to spout, amd maintaining all of that might as well be a full time job.

True. However, being able to mod the game code and not just the server side coding will make it a lot easier. More done in less time. But its up to them; I just want it to happen.

I think coders should be paid, just that much more of a reason to do work and not slack off, which they aren't doing. Not alot, but something to keep them motivated

do you want to pay them? The money that's donated to kainzo is mainly for server upgrades and/or emergency like if the server crashes or spontaneously combusted.

If you really want the coders to be paid then the server would either have to have advertisements in game or you would have to pay a monthly fee to play on it.

@Hydroking77 - the potion effects are hardcoded into the client, the server just lets the client know when they have them.

@Kalkyte - my post has nothing to do with why we should have a custom client - nor does people mindlessly wishing that the bow zoomed in further (or that the server supported X custom client feature). The zoom level is fine.

@GreekCrackShot - just FYI - I don't have a 'real' job. I do coding for Heroes probably about 20+ hours a week. If you're suggesting that I 'slack off' (is that even possible for a hobby project?) or that the development team isn't doing very much then you have failed see how much we actually do/contribute.

I'm not sure what Greek meant but I can tell you we all appreciate your hard work along with the rest of the staff's.

My point is that I hope a Hero client happens because it means more stuff for us and an easier time for the coders. My understanding is that plugins as complex as Heroes often require work-arounds to be able to do certain things others are impossible to do with plugins (add new items). So a HC client would mean more possibilities that can be more easily implemented.

It actually means more work and more headaches. The only difference adding client mods does is open up content that requires client-side additions (blocks, UI, sounds.) - nothing else. It doesn't make coding any of the current plugins any better or easier.

Whoa there buddy, I was not saying that, I clearly said in my post they aren't slacking. I'm not an ignorant child, don't mistake me for one. I know how much work you guys do, and I'm not here to bash coders because of some class with an 'OP skill' that isn't getting attention (but in reality is), or tell you to work harder than you already are.

I kind of figured Kainzo had a good sum of money saved up, so maybe that's just another assumption, but to me it would be smart to spend some that's not for server upgrades on coders. Maybe my phrasing in my last post was worded wrong or something, it definitely wasn't meant to accuse anyone of laziness.

English language is lame :-/ - your comment was quite confusing to me! No worries though :)

@Kalkyte - no worries, I just see tons and tons of people that go - Oooh we should have this, or this, or this! - and a lot of them come down to either requiring waaaay too much time to develop, are impossible, or would just not do anything particularly useful. But that doesn't mean it's wrong to ask, I just have a tendency to tell people what I think about ideas, or how difficult it is to do something.

Yeah, that would get annoying. Maybe the suggestions forum should have a rule stating ideas must get a certain amount of approval before a coder/staff is tagged. That way the ideas would be well thought out and not a waste of time for the staff to read.

to raise revenue there is a programe that allows advertisers to post on webpages. its made by google, and they take some of the profit, but not a whole lot. plus there are hundreds of people who visit the homepage every day. im not trying to nag u guys but if your interested its a good easy way to make some money on the side.

I have little knowledge of coding, so when I suggest something I have no idea if it will work, and asking questions is my way of learning.

It's something we have considered but not 100% on.

I think the community would be ok with ads if they support the server as long as they aren't obnoxious. I can't speak for evryone but one ad banner wouldn't bother me.

me and kain use something that blocks ads (not sure if kain is still using it) and im sure their are plenty of others too. Im not saying it wouldnt be useful but i dont think it would make an considerate amount of money for the coders.

Off topic, i also dont watch tv so i dont know what movies or games are comming out unless someone tells me.
