Getting this out of the way first, I'm aware Berserkers already have Berserker Rage. I'm a little a disappointed by this however. ( My ancestors were Vikings, I'm bound to complain ) It's a level one skill and while effective it doesn't really do a service to what Berserkers were all about. Going into a such an animalistic inhuman rage, you're enemy literally was twice as likely to flee and route. ( Obviously this didn't always work, legionnaires from Rome were way to advanced and disciplined for example) Berserkers didn't just throw a fit, they actually induced a rage that is not naturally occurrent. Some historians believe this was from hallucinogens but there is also reason to believe it was self induced. So let me describe this rage.
It's called Berserkergang, and it's actually a lost art. (Some people claim to have rediscovered it but I have yet to see it done anywhere) Why is it a lost art? It was outlawed hundreds of years ago because of how frightening it was. Berserkers became highly unpopular simply because they killed anything they saw while in their rage. That includes best friends and old village hags. They were scary as hell because they lacked any human characteristics during Berserkergang. They howled, yelled, turned red, gnawed on their shield, and needless to say had a big boost in physique, stamina, and pain tolerance. ( They also fought naked sometimes) Highly efficient elite troops, ignoring a desire for teamwork or chivalry.
I'll get to the negative effects of Berserkergang in a moment. I want to introduce how Berserkergang was actually a deeply spiritual and emotional process. ( I know you wouldn't think of the guy stamping on old ladies as having "dem feelers")
First off Berserkergang was tied to worship of guess who? ...
Odin of course!
Berserkers would pray and dance to Odin before a battle. They would get more and more crazy as the ritual got more intense. They believed that Odin would awaken the animal within them and grant them strength. This is likely why Berserkers often fought with wolf, cat, bear etc. hides. They let rage ( And perhaps other negative emotions) spike out of control and before you know it you have Berserkergang. Apparently Berserkergang could actually appear simply by doing very strenuous work for some.
The one problem for Berserkers considering only themselves (and not something you already know) is that after the trance is over they a very very fatigued mentally and physically. They felt weak and depressed for one to several days afterward.
How I feel this could tie in the Berserkers skill set?
1. Make it a higher level ability than B. Rage
2. Similar boost to Berserker Rage but stronger and longer
3. During Berserkergang you can not be healed
4. During Berserkergang you're very resistant to damage but after it ends the damage will leave you near death even if it wasn't much.
5. After Berserkergang ends for x time you can not naturally regenerate.
6. Berserkergang is also spiritual, so I'm a fan of it costing some mana.
Powerful skill but definitely balanced with some serious cons.
