Suggestion Berserker: Suggested skill - Berserkergang

Getting this out of the way first, I'm aware Berserkers already have Berserker Rage. I'm a little a disappointed by this however. ( My ancestors were Vikings, I'm bound to complain ;) ) It's a level one skill and while effective it doesn't really do a service to what Berserkers were all about. Going into a such an animalistic inhuman rage, you're enemy literally was twice as likely to flee and route. ( Obviously this didn't always work, legionnaires from Rome were way to advanced and disciplined for example) Berserkers didn't just throw a fit, they actually induced a rage that is not naturally occurrent. Some historians believe this was from hallucinogens but there is also reason to believe it was self induced. So let me describe this rage.

It's called Berserkergang, and it's actually a lost art. (Some people claim to have rediscovered it but I have yet to see it done anywhere) Why is it a lost art? It was outlawed hundreds of years ago because of how frightening it was. Berserkers became highly unpopular simply because they killed anything they saw while in their rage. That includes best friends and old village hags. They were scary as hell because they lacked any human characteristics during Berserkergang. They howled, yelled, turned red, gnawed on their shield, and needless to say had a big boost in physique, stamina, and pain tolerance. ( They also fought naked sometimes) Highly efficient elite troops, ignoring a desire for teamwork or chivalry.

I'll get to the negative effects of Berserkergang in a moment. I want to introduce how Berserkergang was actually a deeply spiritual and emotional process. ( I know you wouldn't think of the guy stamping on old ladies as having "dem feelers")

First off Berserkergang was tied to worship of guess who? ...

Odin of course!

Berserkers would pray and dance to Odin before a battle. They would get more and more crazy as the ritual got more intense. They believed that Odin would awaken the animal within them and grant them strength. This is likely why Berserkers often fought with wolf, cat, bear etc. hides. They let rage ( And perhaps other negative emotions) spike out of control and before you know it you have Berserkergang. Apparently Berserkergang could actually appear simply by doing very strenuous work for some.

The one problem for Berserkers considering only themselves (and not something you already know) is that after the trance is over they a very very fatigued mentally and physically. They felt weak and depressed for one to several days afterward.

How I feel this could tie in the Berserkers skill set?

1. Make it a higher level ability than B. Rage
2. Similar boost to Berserker Rage but stronger and longer
3. During Berserkergang you can not be healed
4. During Berserkergang you're very resistant to damage but after it ends the damage will leave you near death even if it wasn't much.
5. After Berserkergang ends for x time you can not naturally regenerate.
6. Berserkergang is also spiritual, so I'm a fan of it costing some mana.

Powerful skill but definitely balanced with some serious cons.

I really like the concept.
-In terms of the actual skill maybe it could have an initial mana use (represents the "spiritual" aspect.)
-During the effect, you could have it that B. Rage is doubled? (Numbers aren't really important, just the concept).
-You could also have increased stamina (Unlimited?) during the effect.
-You could also have a flat damage reduction.

-After the effect you could have it that you are unable to eat/use potions and have your stamina reduced to zero and not be able to regen for some time?
-Unable to receive any heals during the effect but constant blood drinker? (Maybe?)
-After the effect you are slowed, more acceptable to dmg, and possibly deal less dmg (B. rage doesn't work for a period?)

The issue I see with this is people can just hit you and run away; once the effects off; your 100% vulnerable and your dead.

Your not talking about something that balanced here speaking almost EVERY class in this game can currently hit you once or twice and run like Roadrunner running from Wile E. Cyote.

TBH, this is a problem with all melee classes. People can just run away and you will NEVER catch up as long as they maintain their speed. Slows and stuns help but don't last more than a second or 2.

For the skill, maybe add a speed boost during the effect. This way the skill is a crazy steroid during effect, but also a strong debuff afterwards

During Skill:
-Increased Damage
-Increased Stamina Regeneration
-Increased move speed
-Increased Damage Reduction

After the Skill:
-Decreased Damage
-Decreased Stamina Regeneration
-Decreased Move Speed
-Decreased Damage Reduction

Well I think increased speed would be fine. It's natural to run faster during an adrenaline rush, I'd imagine Berserkers can do it.

I feel to account for all these buffs is done by the serious debuffs. I picture it as a skill you wouldn't use all the time.

Some de-buffs while it is in effect however

a.) As I already said no healing. Other plays can't heal you during Berserkergang. You already ignore a lot of damage and this accounts somewhat for how Berserkers couldn't work with others well.

b.) Intelligence deduction, your frontal lobe isn't very active during the trance

---------

During Skill:
-Increased Damage
-Increased Stamina Regeneration
-Increased move speed
-Increased Damage Reduction
-------

I agree with all of these, and his debuffs as well.

The skill shouldn't be spammed all the time, and reserved for higher level Berserkers.

Now, would this skill theoretically replace any or just be an addition. TBH. I don't think anything should be replaced, but if I where to add it in, I would change Lunge to level 40, Frenzy to level 45, and Berserkergang to 50

I don't think it should replace any other skills. I like you think it should be a high level skill. Not going to comment on changing others ;)
