An Exploration into the Dead Towns of Herocraft

Recently, I decided I would go around HC taking pictures of dead towns, try to capture the beauty in the once thriving townships, cities, and capitals. This is the result of a nights worth of work, 150 pictures, a lot of bread, and being killed several times by looters. -.-

Coal Harbor

The once infamous town of Coal Harbor offers an eery emptiness. Many of the houses have been destroyed, and all the chests emptied. Although deserted, you can still see a faint glimpse of this town's one time splendor.

Ran Mizu
The town called "The City of Flowing Water" still appears to be quite untouched still long after the desertion of the town itself. Although rather empty, the circular architecture is very unique.

Arcadia
One of several members of the once thriving S.S.S kingdom I visited, Arcadia maintains a very open feel, it honestly was quite different. I was so used to seeing towns with towering walls and uniform plots, that I didn't realize this was a former town for a while. Arcadia features two large hotel-esque buildings in the center, then various other buildings around it. It lacks a wall, perhaps they were planning to add one. The town seems to be characterized by the pink heart in the center.

New Dresden
Another fallen S.S.S town, while I know very little about New Dresden, it appears they were trying for a large castle. The remnants of the town show a magnificent potential for a great town. However, New Dresden's long inactivity certainly shows. The township ring is littered with gaps and holes, the walls and buildings cluttered with dirt pillars and holes.

Olympus
The final S.S.S town I explored, Olympus still retains it's once towering glory. Set on a beautifully terraformed mountain, Olympus always has, and always will be one of my favorite towns.

Jericho
Another once thriving and dominate town from the north, Jericho held a legacy of power. Back when the capital lost its rings, an admin attempted to repair the landscape to its original, unaltered beauty. What ensued was a mess of crater like holes in the ground, houses torn in half, and partially regenerated terrain cutting through the capital. However, it creates an apocalyptic aura through it's destroyed buildings.

Rangpur
One of the most recent additions to the list of dead towns, Rangpur still lives on in infamy, even if abandoned. Regions still remain, but I was fortunate enough to have a front gate so kindly let open for me. As such, this city appears to be untouched, but merely abandoned.

Typhon
One of several asian themed towns throughout HC, this town appeared to get going quite quickly, only to fizzle out with a town full of plots.

The last entry of mine on this list, and the most recently dead town, Midgard has already been wiped clean by countless raiders.

That concludes my tour of dead Herocraft towns. I will likely do more of these in the future, and plan to visit The Wilderness, Aphrodite, Falkreath, Stahl-tor, etc. For now, I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed doing it myself.

Apologies for the screwed up spoilers, not sure what was wrong. Had to post in separate posts due to image limits. x.x

These towns need to be removed!

They are taking up a huge amount of space on the server map and just look... well.. very ugly! :(

I think that these towns (and many other inactive areas I can think of) need to get chunk resets.

LOL NO I shouldn't. That place is dead. I might have tried if we hadn't built the fugly glass thing, but fixing that monstrocity back up will be a royal pain in the ass. If you want to give it a shot, talk to zachimon, I think he claimed it a while ago...

Naw. I'm already caught up in helping make a new town :O

However, if @zachimon claimed the whole fucking town, then he better repopulate it :p

It's a shame to see a lot of these towns dying. Some of them had some beautiful architecture with a lot of potential, honestly somebody should pick up Olympus or Ran Mizu again.

I shit you not. I was waking up today having that same idea. I imagined how Typhon would look ruined and how I would place blocks that would have "broken off" that building in the north-eastern corner of town.

Yeah, I had a plan for a guild where we would go around with mats ''restoring'' chunks which have been abused (such as no tall grass, trees/floating trees, ugly small temp. houses). However, with the bigger builds, we would ''ruinise'' them. Add leaves, vines, ect! :D

@zachimon should sell it off to someone...

Also, what would happen if a guild formed near one of these places? That would be cool

I had the good fortune to remove my house from Midgard before its fall... which is good, since people went far beyond the normal "Rare blocks only" rule, and have been taking anything that isn't bolted down or on fire. It's a pity, there were some great buildings and architecture... but it never really got beyond "township" in a lot of ways. Sure we had some city-sized walls out, but there was a lot of unused space, and we didn't attract a whole lot of stable members...

It's mine and I'm not giving it up, and I also won't be touching it. I keep it so @Zaspar can't have it

Some little off-topic here since I'm unsure you actually care to check conversations, so please don't respond and just do it: Since you're finally on the forums again, maybe you could just do what you promised and quit our convo? Thanks!

Also, we need special architects that specialize in terrain renaturation, not just runing dead towns.
