An idea for the hunger bar if food is implemented differently in heroes: use it as a mana bar. That way we could have a general idea of what our mana level is without it flooding our screen. Thoughts?

So if you are starving, you're ability to cast spells is hampered? And on a full stomach you're the bees knees at magic?

I like it!

I don't think you have the right Idea, just use that bar to reflect our mana, it wouldn't have anything to do with eating noms, but as far as the actuall idea, I say DO EET

No, I mean ignore hunger altogether. For example, curretly Heroes doesn't recognize hunger, so all it does it limit how much you can sprint. What I'm saying is hijack the hunger bar for our own use. If you are at 100% mana, the hunger bar is full. 50% mana, the hunger bar is half. 0 mana, the hunger bar is empty.

I like this idea, this way we can look at our mana without trouble at all times. it would also make Herocraft an even more unique RPG experience compared to other MC servers

Well, I kinda like the hunger feature. It adds health regen and a new market for food. I don't think that should be removed.

What I was suggesting is that if we kept both, it COULD make sense.

I don't agree. The use of hunger introduces more difficulty to the server. It can be tweaked for some classes to decrease or increase more depending on who you are. It also applies a greater use for food on this map, and as someone said, will heavily increase the market for those items.

To be honest, in certain conditions, playing on the server is easy. If you do things right, you have no danger from MOBS or other players. This is why a food bar is needed. It will help keep people in a somewhat danger.

Also, if there was no hunger bar then players could just keep sprinting and doing other tasks without getting tired. They could do them endlessly.

Using at as a mana bar just gets rid of these idea. I mean, there is no point making it a mana bar because it just wastes to much potential in the game. Why not use the EXP bar as a mana bar or something? Ya see the exp bar is something that has NO use at the moment. I know a lot of players that do not even use the mana bar.

Is it? Alright.

My point still stands however, it is a HUGE waste of such great potential! I see no point in using the hunger bar for mana just because the current bar ''spams your screen''. -.-

Wonder how much the full hunger bar will heal us every 5 seconds. Since half a heart in Herocraft isn't the same as half a heart in vanilla. oO

That is true. You see there is so much to work with now that Notch has added a hunger bar to the game. Like I said it can be tweaked to give more healing to certain paths/specs or the bar could decrease at a slower rate for certain paths/specs.

No, it cant at the moment. There is no API.

At the moment, we aren't looking at having insanely higher healing from vanilla. If anything it will be the same rate as vanilla - Healers / Beds will be the preferred way to heal and regen life.

The hunger bar and need for food is awesome. Having a visual mana bar would also be awesome though, and I'm sure in the future something like this could happen. It would be cool though if casting magic/attacking depleted your hunger faster though. I really ought to pick through some java and minecraft files soon to gain a better understanding of what is and isn't possible :s

i really like how doing different things decreases hunger differently and eating different foods changes how long you can go before you are hungry again (your food saturation). i really hope bukkit (or herocraft's awesome coders :)) can edit it per class so the higher your skill level in x class the less your hunger bar goes down for that or other buffs (example: beastmaster doesn't get food poisoning from raw chicken/zombie meat, ninja or thief take less than .4 food for sprint jumping, miners use less food for breaking blocks).
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Hunger#Mechanics (delete this if its advertising) tells all the current values and i'm sure you can think of how (if you can change them) these could apply to different classes.
