Hi everybody, looking for some help here.

I picked up BF3 the other day and Im totaly phyched to play, however I've run into a bit of a snap-foo.

Whenever I 'download' it I get the following Error message

Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Setip cannot continue (1603)

Can someone give me a hand? Due to my almost complete technilogical illiteracy (despite what others may think) I can only make out about 45% of what that means

thanks in advance

Since you are missing out on the action and I do not know how to help you, I can just tell you the awesome things I am experiencing in BF3, you know, to fill you in on what you are missing. We want you getting all your BF3 time!

Wow that's fucked up.

Complain to customer service? Go rip EA a new one and see how much you get from them. It works with Comcast :p

You could tell them you'll sell your BF3 for MW3 ( a terrible lie I know, who would do that lol) because of this, I'm sure they will give you some kind of reparations.

Oh my, that's no good... honestly your first and best bet is calling into/emailing the company asking for support. They've probably heard of the problem and can provide you with a method to fix it, or a reason it's breaking.

More often than not the VC++ comes included with your windows install, and as such it's one of the included updates you get with windows updates (before my hard drive failed, I'd downloaded about 6 fixes for their shitty programming from them.) From the research I've done, there should be updates/the program itself included in the latest service pack released for windows 7. But if you cannot find it, they provide a link here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403

I'm going to need more details if I'm going to walk you through this, and your last post was ambiguous- you uninstalled what, and it won't reinstall? VC++, or BF3?

Ok, glad someone can help <3

I installed Origin (It runs BF3), after that you have to install BF3 from Origin (like steam). Upon doing so I got the error message in the first post. So I manually installed VC++ but was told that I have a 'newer' version of it alrady installed.

I said 'fuck it' and uninstalled Origin and tried to repeat the process in hopes that eveything would go smoothly. However, this time Origin did not install. The disk prompts me to run the autorun.exe and then brings up BF3's cover with a big orange 'install' button. After I click the orange button the window closes and nothing happens, I waited for over an hour once.

hmm. Try what Malmenca said first. If that doesn't help I'll look into this some more.

In the mean time I assume you uninstalled from the control panel? You might want to go into program files and make sure that there's nothing left of the original install... as for why it's continually closing... I hate asking this but have you restarted since uninstalling?

Yeah, its hard to open an uninstalled program

I uninstalled it directly from Origin (it gave me the option) and yes, I've restarted twice now, it was the first thing I tried.

VCR= visual C++ redistributible, which should be included with every version of windows.

here's the version for 32 bit windows (saves you a search)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555

anyway, back to the original topic. That should be the same uninstall you'd get from the control panel (maybe with a little bit of difference.) is there any trace left of origin in your program files?

DOH! Should have thought of that

I'm at school, Ill check when I get home. From what I saw yesterday there was nothing that involved Origin (I searched origin in my hardrive) so we can safely assume no. I'll get back to you on that however

Alright, sounds good. I'm looking through forums, and there've been other people having problems with Origin in regards to reinstalling, but I've gotten no solution yet. Generally when I see issues like this, they'll usually tell you to "Make sure you run it in administer mode (right click the autorun/setup, hit properties, compatability, check the box.)

Another thing you could try is to search for a seperate setup (not autorun) within the BF3 disk that you've got. That basically means put the disk in, double click "My computer", right click bf3 and hit open in a new window, and then explore for something that looks like set up or install. I'm looking at dragon age right now, and there's a setup right at the bottom. It's another EA game, but ultimately made by different people so it might behave differently.

also, I find this somewhat applicable (translated to make it easier to understand)

TA: if you cant figure shit out by fucking around you dont belong near computers.
TA: kind of like with registered sex offenders and schools.
TA: if you move to a new town you have to go up to your neighbors door and warn them about how stupid you are.
TA: and give them a chance to hide all their innocent technology.
TA: and vandalize your house.

My answer should work.
However, I dont see the exactly error message but I know that if it isnt installed, BF3 wont run.
BF3 was coded based off of VCR 2010 (or later) so that depend is a requirement.

Already got that down

Yeah I tried that already

technilogical illiteracy
I'm not that bad, I know my way around a computer better than most (I live in a hick town where using computers is kind of like witchcraft) so you can assume I've tried all the obvious solutions. But whenever it gets into something specific like acronyms (damn you Kain!) I get lost.

I was uber busy last night and will be for a while so I didn't even touch my computer last night, Its on the list though. Ill let you know what the deal is when I get to it
