Surprisingly pleasant, although i spent most of my time trying to find and build something cool sadly i soon found out that alot of people have little to no respect for people home or items, i had stuff stolen defaced constantly, so i made a bline for the deep north where my friend and i are looking to set up a small base, if anyone wants to join leave a message here

a few quick questions:
any tips on finding actually rich mines?, i feel like all the decent areas have already been starved of resources

im still a lost soul, i wonder if i have to stay like that until 30 like i read, or did i accidentally forget to choose the ranger class(i want to go as a ninja later on) on the tutorial island

thank you for your time!

First up, regarding Lost Soul, this is the starter combat class, and yes, you do need to level that to 30 after which you can choose whichever specialty class you want to try first - Ninja, Ranger, or any of the others. It will cost you 250 souls to make the switch. You can try other classes at any time after that - costing you 250 souls each time you switch. You don't have to master a class to move to another one, and if you switch back you will still have the same level that you had when you switched out.

Second, which map are you on? As a whitelisted player you can build on Haven map where griefing is illegal. If your structures are getting defaced, it would be appropriate to petition the griefing. Check out hc.to/pe for the procedure for doing this.

However even on Haven stealing from chests is legal. Ways to protect your items include:
  • make an LWC (costs souls, cheaper for donors) in a wilderness house (ie unregioned, claimed with a sign, not allowed to be griefed but can be entered if the removed blocks are replaced) or in a regioned area (see below)
  • take out a personal region (again, costs souls, cheaper and larger for donors), not 100% but better
  • join a town and put dirt over your chests - only town mates can break the dirt but stealing from town mates is against the rules.
Third, there really aren't any "decent areas" for mining. The mining resources are the same across both maps. Just start and keep going and you'll come across pockets of higher concentrations of ores.

So you sound like the kind of person who likes their information! I'm currently redrafting the Getting Started guide in the wiki - I reckon I'll ask you to look it over in a day or two and see whether it answers all your "newbie" questions. That be ok? ;)

yah thank you for the response, im on the haven map in the north with the snow, i wrote down the guys name that was harassing me and my friend, its no biggie though i can always restart somewhere else! its good to know about the little ways that we can protect ourselves considering i simply just made a secret chest somewhere to dump all my valuables, yah it looks like the very far areas are void of too many players although we did come across this maaaasive white player made tree which was cool, i would love to see the guide, the more i know about this world the better
