Town help?

Hello people of herocraft,
I am in the middle of joining a town but I have no idea what they are.
I am thinking they are like factions and there is a faction home.
Is there even a command for joining a town? And do you need an invitation?
If anyone knows anything about towns, please post in comments.
I am completely lost in this and will be very grateful if I can get some help.
