Suggestion Town Biome Material Gathering Way too Passive - Alternative

IMO the current biome material system is too passive and promotes just sitting around waiting for your town to produce stuff. I dont think this will help us keep our active player base up, folks will make multiple towns in multiple biomes and log off, wait for materials to upgrade towns.

The alternative i think would work well is make "farms" around map in each biome (one per biome) that constantly produce this stuff into a chest that can be taken by anyone. Once picked up, anyone holding this material is in combat and cannot be ported, gtped, recall, town spawn, or drop transfer the material. They must run the material back to a safe location (eventually town bank). This would promote people being out and about in the world, more pvp, more player activity since you cant just sit there you have to go out and get the materials.

this would also give something to do to many people, as that one person carrying the goods would need an escort to get back to their town. I like this idea, kinda interesting and chock full of DANGER!

but I DO agree... I think the "specialty" materials is silly and does not do anything to retain the player base. In my personal opinion, it worked better back on Bastion where you needed the entire town to help gather all the materials to upgrade your town. As Daki said, no one was available to trade with, so as I had nothing else to do since all I need to upgrade my town is the specialty mats, I logged off for the night. I do not think adding specialty materials is the answer to player retention or making things interesting.. it is boring and just requires a bunch of time sitting around doing nothing...

I agree with this system. We're wanting to turn HArvesters into placeable by biomes... and they would go into a single chest in the center of the chunk.

The harvesters could be 100c per and be "placed" in a chunk and it would gather from chunks within 5 chunks... so it would have a radius of 5.

Would make things more interesting but not sure how hard it would be to get right.

I do really like the idea of having materials that make it so you cant gtp, etc.

Overall, I like the specialty materials and believe it adds an economy system to the townships that was missing.
