Altering the class system in any way will not really change how people enjoy the game.

Because in the end, it's all the same. With all of the suggestions so far, a lvl 65 Wizard is still a level 65 wizard. One could argue that the proposed changes would make it more "fun" to level, but that is honestly not true at all. Until we have a proper PvE system (via dungeons / HeroBoss) no matter how many changes you make to the system, it is still going to be a boring grindfest. It might become more "easier" with the introduction of the point system, but it still won't be very fun.

I'm not trying to say that I'm against the ideas, as I honestly think the point system Kainzo proposed is actually kind of cool. However, what I'm trying to state is that if doing this would cause a lot of work for the programmers, it wouldn't be worth doing right now--as the end result is exactly the same. A boring grindfest that has no purpose other than to fill the gaps inbetween PvP.

If we're wanting to make leveling more enjoyable, adding in PvE is the solution, not revamping classes.

What would be wrong with the idea of having a choice of skills at level up or even skill paths. Provides variability in each spec but as long as you make it so going either way was balanced just to different playstyles. You could have a wider variety that way. Just like I said earlier for example as a Dragoon at a level you could choose to get a skill like Impale or you can pick a skill that would give you and your party a movement boost or a heal. This way if you face a dragoon you can never be completely sure what your facing and there are more player options. You are never forced into a premade class. You could find a Dragoon with any mix of offensive defensive or buff, but it would require creating many more skills. As the skill options should be exclusive in each spec. Like Col Rick I have been talking almost all day about how we have a need for more support buff/debuff classes then just Bard.
There are several classes that buff/debuff, mind you...

This is only turning into a big discussion because we just had a revamp with 5 levels added and 1 new skill for each class and there is another revamp in a week. Guess the people figured they would give some input for the upcoming revamp on stuff they would like to see. If its already planned, might as well discuss it now.

So... we've recently been doing a lot of sweeping changes to Herocraft and I wanted to let you guys know what's on the plate and the immediate plans for areas of our community.

  • Centralized Hub server all players will connect through
  • Boss mobs / Custom Drops / Dungeon Integration
  • NPC revamp (Quests!)
  • Outpost / War system
  • Karma logic revamp
  • Mini-games (Either on separate server or world)
  • Protection Revamp (Merge Residence / BuyRegion and HTTP to a uniform protection system)
  • Datacenter move
  • Races / Attributes (A bit further off but still in planning at this time)
We're slowly working through these and setting things up to hold more players 24/7. If you have any questions or want more details feel free to ask.

He doesn't speak of bosses getting double drops specifically, but he mentions both of them separately.
From this thread.

Honestly... the only 'real' way to do it is to add the current tier 2 to tier 3 and then replace tier 2 with 'mini' versions ... I guess...
Like; ---------------------------->
WARRIOR
Knight | Medium
Dread/Paladin | Dragoon/Samurai
ROGUE
Range | Light
Ranger | Bard/Ninja/Runeblade
HEALER
Holy | Primal
Disciple/Cleric | Mystic/Bloodmage
CASTER
Dark | Arcane
Necro/Pyro | Beguiler/Wizard
See how that could work? But is this more "fun" would this fix anything?
This would add an excellent dimension to the game.

We could easily just have paths master at level 20, tier 2's master at level 30, and tier 3's master at level 35. This would keep the current level 65 dynamic, but would just split the classes in a more efficient manner.

Well, there has to be some extreme checks and balances, cause right now, balance is already hectic and if we were to give more skills to classes - players could find the mix-match they want and just dominate ... so it would be the great pvpers dominating unless you go X spec. We don't want to force players to have to choose ONE thing, otherwise we're back at square one.
An easy way to combat this is that every 5 or so levels you unlock a new skill slot. You can only buy 2 or 3 skills from a set list that are somewhat similar. At the next 5 levels you have a choice of 2 or 3 different skills. So on and so forth. This will give variety, but will still restrict people from building a monster class.

The best way to combat this is to just have skill trees and higher up skills have low end prerequisites.

In fact, just toss out secondary classes and have four different paths with just enough points to fully master one path, and add a few skills from another path. Or if the skills please you, split your skills into different trees for more variety. Like any other MMO I have played.

While we're at it, I will try suggesting again that you have to pay to learn a skill =P
Nothing big, like 10c or a reagent.

I honestly loved the old system of allowing you to "teach" your skills to others.

Maybe we should invest in an ability like that where you can /teach once you master your class. In-doing so you can allow the trainee to bypass the requirement to either find the tome / buy the skill.

Not entirely sure how we could get that in - but it was much more rewarding and felt more... "personal" when playing.

If you guys remember this from pre-zeal days.

I feel like HC is in its infancy, and I would think it would be best to work on this revamp on the sidelines, and only implement on a new world.

so we are not adding more classes like summoner, shaman, warlock, [proper] illusionist/beguiler and maybe a scavenger?
