Suggestion This is Toward the Dungeon team

Should we have Dungeons like this?

I read some of the earlier posts regarding PvE dungeon's, and i thought about it. What if it weren't against mobs? In my mind you could create this Dungeon, where its filled with all kinds of traps. I have blueprints of many of these traps, there can be jumping puzzles all that. To o into specific details see below. Now in my mind the will be piston traps, lava traps, arrow trap, the reward could be a variety of items, coins, experience, Heck even anew title... say [Dungeon Master] or all of the above.
Dungeon Layout It could be somewhat like this, there could be 3 dungeon difficulties Normal, Hard Extreme. the normal could have basic traps like piston traps lava traps and arrow traps. easy to avoid. Hard could have Dispenser with harming potions in them and the above traps, Extreme, is what my favorite would be. it is littered with traps, light is dim, and there is a pressure plate to kill you every 4 blocks. and has Every single trap you can imagine and build.

The players can go in a group of 1-6 and try to survive together, just like MA you cannot join when its in progress. cost of diamond, gold or anything really, Also when you join like MA all your stuff is in a "stash" and you get it back after.

IMO dungeons should not be instanced, rather located throughout the world they are built on and open to be entered by anyone at any time. They should contain a combination of this and mobs, aswell. Dispensers can spawn mobs now, so there could be traps that triggered mobs if that were wanted.

Minecraft lacks the ability to be instanced. However, I do agree with the fact that dungeons should be located throughout the world, randomly.

What I mean when I say "instanced" is not litteraly instanced but rather what the OP said where it would be like MA and you couldn't enter one in progress.

Ok take the instanced part out then, how bout now?
People storm the place, surprise what happens so many player are in there that its chaos nd the lag is unbearable. instanced is most likeley best

I will start of by saying dungeons will not be instanced. If you read my post in the other thread I already mentioned traps inside the dungeons(All be it very minimally). The dungeons on Sanctum where the Dungeon Team(once known as the spell team) was the most active the majority of the dungeons we heavily trap based. So if the museum maps ever come back up you could take a look at those.

There will be varying difficulties of dungeons but each dungeon will be of a set difficulty and will not have multiple difficulty settings (though there may be multiple way through each dungeon)

As for rewards we are slowly working on a new plugin that will handle rewards for dungeons. You will only be able to gain the rewards from completing a dungeon once. It is planned that we will be able to hand out items, coins and heroes experience once you have completed a dungeon.

Also no offence but those trap ideas are amateur ;D


One last thing. If you guys want to continue suggesting ideas for dungeons etc. Feel free to start posting in the dungeons section of the forum here.

I'm terrible at completing them.
But put it this way last map we created a single trap that created server wide lag when we fired it off for the first time.
Needless to say it was dismantled after ^.^

Hmm yet the mass of mobs and players combating in the mob arena does not create major server lag? And the traps are not that "laggy" i tested it (on my own server :O ) and as expected i had 20/30 people on with no lag.
the traps are simple, easy to hide and difficult to avoid. And even if you call a simple piston trap amateur-ish , that can be fixed by putting an empty chest in front of it or a lava trap above it. Anyways im not suggesting move a thousand blocks, no no, a couple is enough. Jumping puzzzles under water mazes. ladder puzzles.... its not all redstone based

Yea... that one trap was a 50x50 block inverting piston maze. You had to run through the dark maze one way hit a button to invert it then you have 5 mins to find the exit before the maze seals itself for 1 minute suffocating everyone inside.

2500 simultaneous block movements :p

Each time the piston maze inverted we had to trigger both sets of pistons then turn them all off then turn the one we want on other wise the pistons checker boarded.

Danda should i apply for Dungeon Team?

favorite kind of dungeons, ones that actually challenge a player's skills, rather than silly binary "puzzles"

favorite kind of dungeons, ones that actually challenge a player's skills, rather than silly binary "puzzles"
I like to use a mixture of both. Puzzles that test skill and ones that test your mental ability with riddles and stuff :p
