There is a large amount of people in US who can't get jobs, because they have been born with illness, they are crippled, they have mental problems or they simply were born in a poor family that couldn't afford school. They can't afford health insurance etc. and Obama Care seems like a step in the right direction for US. The ''Every man for himself'' policy is quite oldish, free health care paid in tax money will make the gap between rich and poor smaller, as the rich pay more money in tax which they can afford, instead of all the poor people paying their savings in tax.

Go Obama!
First of all, according to your profile page you are from Norway, so why are you getting involved in united states politics? Second you talk about people with illnesses, if the sickness was so bad they can't work, they are in the hospital and most people that are sick are retired. Next you talk about people with special needs... If it affects them that much they should not be working and their parents should keep eye on them 24/7. Think of it this way, if there was a guy who was 22 and had a job but also had a child but never went to college to get an actual job, that's his choice and it's not fair I have to pay for others choices to not get the credentials for a good job.

Yes I am from Norway, and this discussion started in an open, public forum which means anyone can comment.

People can have illnesses that makes them unable to work in any way, but still live and function in a nearly normal life. They don't live in hospitals, leaving everyone with an illness in hospitals would be cruel and cost ineffective.

If someone has special needs, does that mean that their parents has to restrict the rest of their lives to take care of him/her? No. There are people with mental illness that can take care of themselves, who however can become violent under pressure etc. There are many types of mental illness were people don't have to spend their time being constantly watched over.

Think of it this way, if there was a guy who was 22 and had a job but also had a child but never went to college to get an actual job, that's his choice and it's not fair I have to pay for others choices to not get the credentials for a good job.

If he never went to college, there might be reasons for it. The only thing you think of is ''If they didnt go to college, they chose to not do so'', but what if they only had one parent and he/she got ill and needed his/her son to watch over her for a while, and he decided to leave his studies to stay with his parent? Or if he got injuried and couldn't study for 1-2 years, or caught an illness that didn't let him study? Maybe his family was poor and had 4-5 children to pay college money for, but couldn't manage to pay it anymore? These people who don't study, ends up with the worst jobs in society. And often, it's not their own fault. And that's why Health Care is a good thing, it's often not the poor's fault they are poor.

Lastly, you don't pay anything. You're 13, your parents pay for you. ;)

The US is a very powerful nation, and what they do impacts many other countries. It is within our interest to know/discuss what should go on, because any decisions made would effect all of us.

In terms of healthcare, i'm not a fan of ''Obamacare''. For a country so big, I feel it would be better to let the states run things their own way. Offering and enforcing one universal system might work for some areas, but for others, it could cost far more that what is normally required, and thus, it may trigger decline in the quality of the service.

As for FREE healthcare, I think it should be desired by any government. If a country can afford it, or at least get to a stage very similar to it, then by all means, DOOOO ITTTTT. HOW the healthcare is organised/run/structured, however, should depend of the situation/location/available resources, ect ect (as i've discussed above).

It's different when you have a large family, I understand the concept that food costs money, and sometimes you can't affor it. Also when you talk about people with mental illnesses if the parents are not required to watch over them, then the person should have no trouble gettin and holding a job. And I'm 14 and it will be my resposibility to pay taxes when I turn 18.

Not everyone has a choice go to college, it's expensive and even if you work really hard and have a 4.0, it doesn't mean someone will just come along and give you a scholarship because you did good in school.

Just to interject something quickly. If anyone has a job in the US, and they are not paid under the table, they pay income taxes. It does not matter what age you are. Second, if anyone buys anything ((Depends on your state as well)) that person pays sales tax, regardless of age. It is possible that Aburido pays some taxes at the age of 13.

No I'm talking about people who literally live on the streets.. I don't see it fair for everyone t pay for them when they usually got that why by not spending money wisely and buying things like drugs and alcohol that are expensive.

What then we should just let them die? It's not like everyone that's homeless is into drugs and alcohol. Alcohol is hardly expensive, and drugs vary in price, obviously very poor homeless people wouldn't be able to afford expensive drugs.

That's their choice and ultimately their fault/problem, not ours.

Given your experience with the Nordic Model, and god knows how much I love Scandinavia, you're applying socialist principles to US politics (which are ultimately, unfortunately true with the way Obama is going with things). Not to say that Scandinavia hasn't been successful, but socialism is not something we should even be thinking of drifting towards.

To some extent healthcare is necessary, but when brought to such an excess it becomes problematic for the rest of society.

So I guess helping hobos is more important than the rest of society who keep this nation running?
