Upgrading your internet would help, yes. But here are some other solutions:

1. Does anyone else in your family use the internet?
2. Do you have any other devices that connect to the internet taking up bandwith?
The internet can only stretch so far, bandwith the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period, is basicly your internets capacity.

If anyone else in your family is using the internet, try asking them to get off and see if that fixes your connection problem.

If you have Xbox Live/Ps3/iPhone/Laptop/Desktop

Try un-connecting anything you're not using and see if that makes it a bit faster.

Try http://speedtest.net

See what your internet speed is and make sure that it's matching your providers speed.

For example if you're getting 2.0 MBS (megabytes per second) and your internet provider is supposed to be giving you 10.0 there is a problem.

And the occasional restart modem/router also might fix any issues.

lol - There isn't much need to be tech savvy to understand most of the things in Kahzo's post. Except maybe the MBS and such.
