So yesterday morning the laptop I am using suddenly lost ability to connect to the internet through wireless networking. To top it off, sound no longer works either.

I have tried:

1. Updating Drivers
2. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Drivers
3. System Restore all the way back to B.C.
4. Smacking my head against the wall.

Anyone have another idea?

OS is Windows XP Service Pack 3
Model is Sony VAIO VGN-SZ52B/B

Right click MY COMPUTER >> Manage >> Device manager (left side of the sidebar, under the dir of system tools.)

Tell me if anything you open up has an orange/yellow exclamation mark or a yellow shield.

for you, just look at the networking and sound.

Yeah Pete I did that. Networking is showing up good.

Sound has a yellow exclamation mark on my "SigmaTel Audio High Definition CODEC"

I've tried update/reinstall/rollback/

Make sure your wireless card is on. Dunno about you but the f12 key on my laptop disables the wireless card. Took me like an hour until I noticed the one red light used to be white.

Also does it work if you connect it to the router with an ethernet cable?
