I use AaGeOn's 128 bit texture pack. I really like it. Makes the game look more "real" and less cartoonish. Makes it a bit darker when its dark though. Here are some pics:

Xenocontendi. It's a beautiful 16x16 pack, rather muted in it's colors. It's close enough to vannila that you can tell what something is at a glance, but it's muuuch nicer about it.

Haha, I wish. If the game looked like this, it would have 5 million players as opposed to 1 million. Most potential buyers are deterred by the awful graphics. Sure, texture packs help but the game isn't advertised like it and that's what people go by.

To stay semi-ontopic, I don't like Misa's weapons/tools/items (those are just downscaled photographs) but his mobs and animals are great. Those are included in my compilation as well plus the animated water/lava/portal.
If I had to recommend a texture pack (apart from the one I'm using), I'd still copy&paste the same list:

JohnSmith Texture Pack
Doku's RPG Texture Pack (this has been redone since under the name of Gerodoku or sth)
Dustycraft

Haven't seen the last three listed, I thought more people would prefer those instead of Misa's.
Before Aza's, I used to use the second and third a lot (Dustycraft was heavily WIP that time).

I keep trying different texture packs, usually when I get the hankering for something hi-res, but I keep coming back to painterly.

It's just so well done; it may not be hi-res but everything is tasteful, well done, and it all works very well together. Plus the customization selector is awesome.

I use the visibility pack formely named the high contrast I believe, makes ores the easiest thing to spot. Everything is nice and simple. I literally cannot play with anything else especially the default

Also cobblestone actually doesn't look ugly

the mobs look plain colors but they are very visible making them easy to spot which was what the creater was going for, animals look the same to me.

I use piehole, I like it because i like to make modern looking houses and buildings. Piehole is good for that because it gives all the wool colors their own pattern, it makes for a good carpet or wallpaper. Also, some people dont like this, when you mine something, instead of showing cracks, it shows a loading bar.

I also have a question, how do i use a mod and a texture pack at the same time? The piehole website says it looks best with the "BetterLight" mod, but I dont know how to use mods with texture packs. So if someone could help me thatd be great!

I use Eld Pack. It's so much better than Painterly, and the way he uses dithering is a sight to behold. Custom water is coming soon, and it's awesome! I also hate Painterly because Rhodox is a jerk, while Eld actually listens to his texture pack users.
