Smith exp.

So i was reading the wiki and it says that smiths are supposed to gain exp. from skills.
Repair is a skill, and its the main role of a smith, so it is logical to assume a smith would gain experience from repairing tools and armors. But as a smith, I saw that i got no experience at all for what should be my main task.

Does repairing still use gravel/flint/leather or the material a tool is made of?

No it takes the material it is made with. Ex. Diamond chestplate = 5 diamonds, instead of the 8 to remake.
