I like that its miscellaneous, but lets have a few scribe unique skills too.

First of all, they should have a monopoly on writing books. Only merchants and scribes should sell written books?

Ink Mixing: Let scribes summon a mysterious potion once in a long while, reagents could be colored wool, ink sac, glass bottle.

Copy: Scribe copies a written book exactly. Reagents: blank book, quill, ink. With this and book shops, good scribes can sell books with town coords, treasure maps, lore, etc.

Paper Trail: The scribe reads who the last person to open a chest or use a door was. Only chests and doors, only the most recent person. This should not be accepted as evidence for any staff action, but could be used to learn who's house you are in, or solve town disputes.

Also maybe remove Light? More torches underground is a good thing anyways.

Thoughts?

We're not giving Log-viewing abilities to any class. There are many reasons to not have this, mostly technical and used for lag prevention.

Copy seems like it has potential, though. If not Scribe-exclusive (although it would work), just making it available in some way would be pretty greatly appreciated.

For some, writing is a very personal experience that involves a lot of revisions. Hunting down a barely-literate preteen to write down your town rules and walking him through fixing all his spelling, grammar, and formatting mistakes sounds like an extremely frustrating experience.

Written book shops also just don't make sense from a technical perspective and a gameplay perspective. What do you want to do with bookshops? Sell poems, guides, and short stories? Who would buy that? Would the chest-shop plugin support it? How much data is needed to store a thousand books?

I do like the copy book skill. It may also make sense to restrict map-copying and lecterns to scribes. Not sure if this is possible, but another good scribe skill idea would be the ability to edit already written books.

Make a copy book or copy map skill to clone maps? ;)

Maps will be able to be placeable on walls in a later patch, so a copy map skill would be handy @Kainzo, especially for town/personal decoration.

A copy book skill would also be fun.

Can other professions create books still...? Is that intended?

Currently for a caster, the scribe is kinda underwhelming. If safefall could be cast on yourself, it would make the class worth picking. All of the effects are self-casts so it's a very selfish utility profession, the fact that safefall doesn't work on yourself just makes it weird.
