I used to be able to play at a normal render distance without crashing at all. After the 1.4 Update, I crash every few minutes on normal, and every so often on short. Not sure if there's any correlation, but some help would be appreciated. Playing on short and tiny sucks :[

Java is up to date
Latest graphics drivers have been installed as well

Try this..

Well what you do is make a .BAT file on your desktop and have this command line in it...

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms384M -Xmx640M -jar "C:\Users\UserName\Desktop\Minecraft.exe"

Making sure that the javaw.exe is in the folder it's looking for and that the second address points to your Minecraft.exe file

I have similar specs, so thats a fix for view distance then? Would it work for me so I could go from Normal to Far?
And do I have to keep the .bat running while I play?

Yeah its works perfect for me too, I just keep the bat active in the background just in case. Ty for the fix.

I had a similar problem with MC.. I properly installed the 64-bit Java client and it's running like a proper game now, no graphic hesitation on full render distance, no black screens. For some reason I couldn't download the 64-bit Java client with Chrome, so I opened the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer and it was available for download.
