Regarding friends with bounties

Joined

If you log on and find that one of your friends has a bounty placed on him/her, but you have not communicated or planned prior to this bounty being placed, is it acceptable to accept their bounty and kill them? This is if there has been no planning whatsoever beforehand, and no other players are going after the bounty. I may have misconceived what I read on the wiki, but it seems acceptable if there has been no previous planning.

Alternatively, if it really is illegal, why is there no system in place to prevent you from accepting bounties on players from your town and/or on your friends list?

Copy pasted from the wiki.

"It is illegal for you to collect a bounty on a fellow town member, guild member, friend, or ally of any sort, or to allow any prior preparation by purposely setting up a kill in order to collect a bounty." http://herocraftonline.com/wiki/Bounties under the note near the top.

It doesn't say its illegal only if you prepare to kill a friend. Basically it's always illegal to kill any form of ally for their bounty, then it's also illegal to set up a fight with someone while accepting their bounty even if they are not allies with you.

Essentially, killing a friend to remove their bounty is considered Boosting, since you gain some souls after the fact, and you "save" them from the fear of being ganked/killed/raided. Its illegal, don't do it.

There is no such system in place to prevent said illegal activities since this rule is not broken constantly.

Slight OT brought on by Nashah's post of the rules.

One thing I'd like to see frowned upon is the fake afk. It is along the exact lines of planning to give a bounty away and setting up a fight to lose your bounty.

If you want to fake afk, I think you should port to trade and go afk and not say a thing.

If you start shouting 'going to trade' or 'free bounty at trade' or 'come get my free bounty at trade' that should be frowned upon, especially when people say 'giving away your bounty is rigging' and then the person says 'afk' until the bounty is taken.

It used to be more elaborate, with people fake raging and stuff, but it's to the point that people say 'thanks' when they come back from fake afking.

Back on topic...

I don't know why, but there's this ...thing...With friends accepting bounties on their friends. Not killing them, but accepting the bounty. Not sure why they waste the souls...

Anyway, as Xel said, people don't kill their friends for their bounties all that often. No system is complex enough to get down and decide who is friends and who isn't. It's up to the playerbase and staff to be on top of chat and watch when bountied players get killed for foul play.
