Here's their Kickstarter page, chock full of interesting information and specs. Specs! Right up front.

The gist of it is this: It's an Android-based system that is looking to revitalize gaming on the TV and upend the console games industry with it's low cost and high accessibility. You can mess around with the insides without being punished for it and every system will include an SDK. The controller is all sorts of beautiful and the console, while a little chunky, isn't bad either. It will have Minecraft.

Whatcha think? Can it garner the kind of audiences that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have with their consoles? What might those companies do in response to it? Would you buy one?

Yup. I've seen the Rasperry Pi before, it's pretty neat as well.

I'll toss in another upcoming thing. Roccat's Power Grid is an app that lets you use your phone for PC gaming. Chat stuff, monitoring your computer, and command buttons. It's in beta and although they plan to have it for Android and Windows Phone they're just working with the iPhone version currently. I would love to use something like this for Herocraft, mostly because I can't spare the funds to buy some good hardware and visual icons might help me with my skills.

I didn't know consoles were dying.
They aren't. But consoles aren't very friendly to all-new things and this will be far far easier to develop for. If Ouya gets popular it could become a good proving ground for innovative games. And you're not paying thousands for the opportunity to develop something either.

People seem to be getting more and more into indie games. Yet are too attached to the sit-on-the-couch-controler-in-hand-console-gaming to get on a PC and play the bulk of these indie games.

An open source console could a nice fat foot in the door to get the ball rolling here. Since I know many people who would rather buy Minecraft for $20 than Mass Effect 3 for $60 after the bombshell that ending was.

AAA titles used to be more consistently better. Now it feels like big game companies are running out of ideas. Just look at EA's stock price! (compared to what it was a few months ago)

edit: I'm still not 100% on this thing. However I'd rather buy this than a "PS4" or a "Xbox72whatever"
