Misunderstanding residence?

Hello everyone, I am pretty new to this server, and I keep looking up this residence rule in game. I understand atm it is available to tier 3 and up. But what defines a residence?

I am under the assumption ANY structure you make to live in is considered a residence? Like is a generic house I make in the wilderness considered a residence which I have to pay for? Or is a residence something else?

Sorry for such a newbie question, just trying to understand if I have everything down correctly.

Recidence is a small region, or a personal region if you want to call it that.
A region is a place where only the owner + people decided by the owner may edit blocks.

You may hear people speak of this as "donor regions" and is only available for T3+
When you own a region it cost to create one and you get taxed for keeping it.

So you can build as you wish in the wild,whitout getting taxed.
as long as you are 100+ blocks away from towns.
