Well if its implemented I hope it takes alot longer to get to level 25 in the skills then it did on the test server today, in about 2 hrs I could mine Diamonds at that pace its more like a annoyance then an actual progression. in a matter of hrs people were running around using the best stuff, there was little challenge or use to s system that completes in 2 hrs of game play when people play and build for months.

Sorry if I am wrong with my assumptions, I have read through this post and gotten all the info I could.

1. I feel as though there should be enough grinding in the leveling system that players feel specialised and unique with their skill setup, however I don't want older players to be miles ahead of newer players. They should be able to catch up after putting some work in, but not having to grind for months.

2. I like the slayer level dictating what weapons you can use against mobs, but against players it may make you seriously gimped if you want to protect yourself from PKers who are all decked out in shiny armour.

3. Like eve online I would like the choice to pursue any option without being gimped in another. If i put the work in, then i would like to be able to use diamond weapons/armour and still go mining with a diamond pick. Rather than having to choose a set path to take. For example you may have a combat class as a primary and then choose a secondary crafting profession.

4. Rather than having the best tools at your disposal at the end of your leveling. Have them earlier on but give additional bonuses for a higher level. For example the previous mining levels gave a chance for extra ore, this would be worth a large on going grind for after you have gained the ability to use diamond picks.

I think this is where a progression of status effects would help. Getting more minerals or even being able to detect minerals within a 5x5 radius of you. Learning to use tools should be easy, mastering skills should be a long term venture.

I think the attainment of diamond tool should not be the end of the lvling experience more like the midpoint, when after you could obtain power/skills related to the skill been lvled (at a higher exp cost )

Shutting the hell up.
Regarding the leveling system...

How is the Slayer skill leveled? If it's leveled per-strike, then people who own a laptop with a touch pad as well as a mouse (myself, for example) could very easily hammer in twice as many hits as someone using a desktop computer with merely a single mouse.

I think Slayer ought to be changed to be leveled per kill, rather than per strike. On the test server, I've mostly been smacking things around with my fists using the aforementioned hammering of both the laptop touch-pad mouse and a USB mouse. As such, I'm up to level 8, far higher than my woodcutting or mining skills already.

Didn't read all that... But I also do not think that Diamond should be last level. Maybe mid range and then extra perks for leveling past that like say level 30 you can use diamond tool, level 40 you get extra durability, level 50... Idk maybe deaths don't drop but loose 1/2 durability or something.

Great for us who spend time on the server, but i think tool restrictions will be irritating to newer players accustomed to being able to use those tools, and progress in the way they are familiar with.

likewise /o and /h chat will avoid a constant barrage of 'why can't I use my pick?'.

I think the mod would be best used for leveling up the classes special abilities when that is implemented

i.e if all classes had access and use of steel swords, and one of a warrior class' bonuses was using diamond swords in PvP combat, they might gain access to higher level swords and armor by using a sword in combat.

A rogue class may be leveled up through use and practice with the bow

Or a blacksmith's level might be linked to experience with a pick, and a spell-caster class by use of spells etc.

its not THAT bad, it slows you down for a few hours, but I wonder if it is even necessary, it feels just un-needed.

unless its tied into that double ores thing for crafting reloaded, THEN I can see a point to it, but its just artificially slowing down new players,

Pssst non combat professions and barons Diamond tools only =P

This is primarily a test for the Profession side of things.

Through a leveling / exp we want to:
1) limit the amount of blocks being mined to slow down the rate of blocks / structures coming up
2) Make some blocks more sought after than others due to level to mine
3) Provide incentive for mining, progression in the character
4) Make a rough line against miners/etc from players who just log in every now and then to dick off and grief. (and we will catch and burn you at the stake if you grief)
5) Entwine a system similar to this one - with our RPG plugin that will be out soon - allowing non-crafters to obtain the highest tool sets - whereas the "Crafting" professions come stock equipped with them.
