Is the town Nova gone?

I am very frustrated by the fact that my chests have been robbed of valuables when the chests were locked by mat trip and only him or me could access it. Is there some appeal to get my items back? I had over 1500 redstone ore which took a while to collect. Is this a rule/feature of the game, that if a town dies, anyone can pillage it? Sort of stinks for players like me who have college and can't be on 24/7 to see if my town is dead. Again, unless there is a good explanation for this, I doubt I will be on again. If I can't leave the game for a week without risk of my items being stolen, what point is there to trying to save anything? let alone mine?

It's a hardcore server. Theft is allowed everywhere. Once a city dies, it is considered the wilderness, and all protections are removed from the city, which includes LWC'ed chests. The best thing to do would be to find a more stable and reliable city in which to store your items.

Is there a way to sign up for an email if the city is dead? It feels like a gold rush type thing, where everyone is standing at the line waiting for the word up top that this city is closed and you can now loot to your hearts content... I doubt I will be playing much anymore as like I stated previously, I can't be on every day, and part of the point of this game is to save up rare materials. If I can't trust that the town will be alive in 1 week, I will just play something else :/

Every 2-3 weeks, we have a inactivity removal - if the town you are in is extremely lacking members and leadership - you may want to seize power yourself or try to get things started.
