i was thinking a smith ability that would be useful would be deconstruction. i mean when a smith comes across an iron sword or diamond armor other than a chestplate he could repair and sell it or he could deconstruct it and get the materials back that went into making it or some of them then make other things with it like break down iron swords and make himself armor or break down diamond swords and make himself diamond picks any way just an idea to look at :D

Creator and destroyer...not sure if that works into it being a "crafter" class spec ability as well, but I guess crafters are also gatherers.

Recycling is good. Being able to turn unneeded tools back into usable materials would be pretty nifty.

erm..... so say a smith has the best pick he can get and he has used it up till breaking point. all he would need to do is decraft it then recraft the pick and he would have no need for any more picks/materials.

I don't think this will get accepted as it is described up till this point.

well as it is now they can repair any tools with gravel so its the same thing isnt it???
In my opinion it should take at least one of the items to create what u are repairing to repair it such as a diamond pick takes one diamond then gravel. also i did say it should some or all the the resources back its up to kainzo in the end if he thinks you should get half of the resources back it would still be worth it

Make it when you decraft an item, you only get like 75%-80% of the material back or something like that.

Smith are still able to repair their items for next to nothing anyway, so why should it matter much? Decrafting is more of a utility skill, to get back resource from a tool that you don't need and put those resource into other uses.

decraft and just give back the metal. Then they can't recreate without more wood and you would get the important stuff back. since all tools / weapons us sticks it would work for them, armour would be a different story though. :(

oh is that a good suggestion Deamonxman is it buddy???? friendly advice unless u have any good info or know what ur talkin about dont post!!!!! as for eisbaerBorealis that would be a good suggestion and to u im not being a dick lol but smiths already have the ability to repair items to 100% with the use of just good old gravel so the life of the item wouldnt really matter cause they could already repair it and just break it down anyway ;) and r3xz thats a good idea not geting all the material back say small things like a diamond sword or shovel u would get back 100% but a thing such as a diamond chestplate which is 8 diamonds u could get like 5 or 6 diamonds back maybe??

I stick to the idea of decrafting only mostly-repaired items. :) If Smiths can already repair items, then I think they should spend the gravel and repair the item before dismantling it. :) I like the idea of not returning the sticks for tools, and maybe half rounded up in materials? Shovel and sword return 1 material (iron, cobble, diamond) and picks and axes return 2. Maybe the same thing for armor. 50% of mats, rounded up. :)
