Here's a quick script I threw together. Tried to make it friendly and laid-back. Very short phrases and sections to keep the viewer interested and absorbing onto (hopefully). Very rough idea, don't bash it too much, haha. Just an example of what you could do. Lots of typos, meh.
[Video starts in newbie spawn place]
Hello and welcome to Herocraft! This video will be a brief introduction to everything you need to know as a new player to the Multiverse. The video will be broken up into the following sections: How to use commands, the Hero plugin, where you can and can't build, and Chest Shops.
Everything you do in this server is accessed through commands, similar to Windows Command Prompt if you are familiar with that. Commands are entered into the text box, and always begin with a backslash. [show example] The first command you will probably use is switching chat channels to speak. Herocraft has many chats, both public and private. But instead of clicking tabs in a user interface, you need to manually change your channel focus. For example, if I wanted to say hello to everyone, I would type in slash-c-h space o. The ch indicates you are giving a channel command, and the o means offtopic, the general global chat. [show on screen, type out "Hello Herocraft"]. Other channels you will want to know about are t for trade [show], h for help [show], and tour for a more in depth tour of the starting area [show]. Also, most everything has some kind of in-game help function. Typing in slash-help brings up most of the functions you will be able to do [show]. Since it displays many commands, it has been broken into pages to make for easier reading. You can see the page count at the top of the help text, and type in a page number after slash-help to go to that particular page [show].
Now, you see in front of you a wall of various rules. Read over all of them before moving on. Now, you are probably very excited to choose a class in the Heroes plugin this server is the home of. The wiki on our website has information on all the classes, skills, and commands you will see in this video. However, you can also peruse the halls around you to learn the basics of the five paths. Four are combat classes: Warrior, Rogue, Caster, and Healer, similar to your standard RPG fare. The fifth class are the Crafters, they focus on construction and the economy. [Walk out, start moving around] A common misconception is that you must walk down a specific hall to choose a path. The halls are just for information, remember I mentioned earlier that most everything you do is through typing in commands. [Walk around, showing the 4 path halls] These are the four combat paths, the crafter path is upstairs. As you see, they showcase what the path can do, and the specializations I will get to later.
Once you have looked at all the paths and made your decision, it is time to utilize the command system again. Let's say you want top pick Warrior as your path. The command for this has three parts, and it makes sense if you think about it. You are giving a command to the hero plugin, so you start by typing slash-hero [show]. What are we doing, well, we are choosing a path. So type space-choose. And what path do we want to choose? Warrior, so type space warrior. You should now have slash-hero space choose space warrior. Press enter, and you are ready to go! [show if possible]. The same goes for rogue, healer, caster, or crafter.
Out in the world, you will gain experience to you path for almost anything: using skills, mining, and killing things. Eventually, you will reach level 50 in your starter path and be able to specialize. The choices you will have are posted in these halls [show] or can be found on the wiki. Keep in mind, after you have chosen your first path, you will need to pay 500 coins to change starter paths or pick a specialization. Also, note that once you have reached level 50 and mastered a class, you can always pay 500 coins to switch back to that class at level 50. If you change classes at anything less than level 50, you will lose all experience in that class and need to start over if you desire.
Finally, you can use the commands /hero tools to see what tools and weapons you are allowed to use [show], /hero armor to see what armor you can wear [show], and /skills to see what skills you can learn and what level you gain them at [show]. All of these are path based; different classes get different weapons and armor, the attack and defense values of which have been modified to suit the Heroes plugin.
[Walk out into Zeal]
This magnificent place you see is called Zeal, at coordinates zero - zero. This is the place you will spawn in if you die until you set your spawn point with a bed at night. [Keep walking around, showing it off]. This place, and many others is the world, are protected with permissions. For example, if I try to break this block [punch a block, get error] I'm told I don't have permission. You must be 400 blocks away from the center of Zeal to mine or build. [Start moving out of Zeal, look up]. THis boundary is visible, you can see the ring in the sky marking where you can start to build. You will also see these rings around the map over towns and cities. Only citizens of those towns are able to build or mine within their regions, giving them some extra protection against greifing and intruders. Keep in mind, even if something isn't built under these rings, you can't just tear anything down. Only rare blocks (examples, need to look up to confirm) can be taken. Everything else must be left as it is. See the rules section in the wiki for more details on this.
[Find a chest shop]
Lastly, many people get confused about Chest Shops and what they are. Crafters can create these, and use them like automated merchants for various items. You see it is a chest with a sign over it. The sign holds all the important information and is what you will interact with. [Move in close to the sign] The first line tells you who is the owner of the shop. The second line tells you how many itmes you can trade at once. This one has the number [read number], which means you can buy and sell to this shop in groups of [number]. The third line is the Buy and Sell price, B and S. This is what YOU would buy and sell at. So, this shop will buy [number] items for [price], and sell [number] items for [other price]. The last line tells you what the item this shop is trading. Okay, now, you have to pay attention to what you are doing when trading with one, because if you mess up, you won't get a refund unless the shop owner is very nice. (double-check this next part for me) To sell, left-click the sign. An easy way to remember this is you left click to punch things, think instead that you are handing the shop an item. To buy, right click. [Show both]
Well, that's it! Our introduction on how to do things here in Herocraft. As always, use the wiki for more information, or ask in help chat. Remember how to do that? Keep an eye out for players with "Guide" written in front of their name. This means they are staff members who are meant to help people such as yourself. Good luck, and welcome to Herocraft!
