Hypothetical question

Let's say that I have a few chests that have two cobble blocks placed above them to prevent others from opening them unless they remove the blocks. If they put the blocks back, that isn't considered griefing, correct?

Now let's say that one of these chests does not have any blocks above it, but the robber mistakenly places two cobble blocks above it. Would this be considered griefing?

What if the chest was covered with smooth stone, and the robber replaced it with something else such as cobble. Would that be considered griefing?

If the robber breaks the blocks and replaces them with something different, like breaking stone and replacing it with cobble, it's griefing. If the robber places the blocks when they were not there, it's griefing. If the robber breaks the blocks and replaces it with the same kinds of blocks, like breaking stone and replacing it with stone, it is not griefing.

So many rules questions about this. It isn't that complicated, guys. Here's something I posted yesterday after somebody asked a similar question:

2. I don't care how many blocks you break as long as you put them back. If you're good at the game, you'll break the minimum possible. Good thieves take glass and smoothstone everywhere they go, just in case.
...
4. If you change a block on someone's property, change it back. This is a true principle, and, knowing it, you are able to govern yourself in the matter.

Forgive me if I sound a little exasperated, but I answered this question a great many times over this past week. I know that's my job, but holy balls, it isn't rocket science. It is, in fact, simplicity itself.

Sorry, I just wanted to be 100% sure. I need a (somewhat) foolproof way to keep robbers out of my chests. If it means /pe'ing them for griefing and potentially getting them banned, then so be it. I just don't want to accidentally /pe them when they did nothing wrong, and end up wasting the staff's time.

No worries, mate. Just remember that simple principle, and you'll always know right from wrong when it comes to griefing.
