How the profession miner stands now, and how its not viable.

Until the miner got nerfed to the ground it was a great profession, but now its purely useless.
Lets look over the skills miners get;

at lvl 10 you get mining, atm this gives you a 1% chance to get a double drop when mining ores(5.5% at lvl 55). This skill is useless, at lvl 55 you'd get 1 extra iron ore per 19 you mine.

Lvl 20: Superheat, you smelt ores as you mine for 20 sec. Its ok but not something you'd use while mining, at all.

Lvl 30: light, I have no idea what it does as it dosn't say what it does. I'd guess it lights up the area around you for a limited duration. Ok I just got this skill and it makes a lightstone spawn and follow you(it ports under your feet every time you stand on a block) and lights up, pretty cool but since it only lasts 20 seconds you have to type in the command every 20 seconds, the time limit could be upped.

Lvl 55: Excavate, makes you mine faster and insta break dirt. Good but bad as a lvl 55 skill as an encanted pick mines faster.

Overall = useless profession,
Enchanters are better at mining as fortune gives them a 1000% better drop chance.

And now on how to buff them, some of my ideas are;

Buff mining so you would have something like 55% double drop chance at lvl 55. and a 27.5% triple drop chance, this would make the class usable again.

Or, re-add their former mining passive that would let you get random drops from mining stone. Exept just with the half drop rate this time, before it was 5.5% at lvl 55, what about re-adding it with half of the drop rate? So 0.5% chance at lvl 10, 1% at lvl 20, etc and 2.75% at lvl 55.

If you're not buffing miner, well then I guess you'll lose your last miner on the map as almost everyone already changed to something else ._.'

so is that it ? miners gonna stay how it is now ? ive been a miner since the start of the new map, still waiting and hoping somethings gonna be changed for the better.

I definitely see the point here. As I'm a enchanter, low-level one so my opinion may not be the best;however, I for one comply with this, because efficiency picks ruin the point of miner. I understand that by removing fortune the classes got balanced to some degree, but not one by which miners seem viable. Overall, I agree that miners need some sort of buff or change.

So yesterday when I logged on and about 150 people were online; I do /hero who miner and only only person I see on the list is a lonely lvl 38 miner named kevinlive.

Dosn't this kinda speak for itshelf?

I think the miner class is a great class, IF they had some good skills alot of there skill are blah like the light when you got torchs or mine dark like me doesnt do mch just like smelting ability for 5 sec blah why not passive make more sense only real benificial is the chance for diamond drops by lvl which is great just wish the % was higher. But yea i see all these other class's and they got amazing abilitys for them then i look at my class and out of everything only one really good skill thats it ive talked to 7 other people who dropped miner class for this reason. Also since we get sought after while working so much underground make sense to give us a + to dmg with pickaxes to defend ourselves from crazy bastards trying to get our loots. So please just take a look over the miner class and ask yourself ... would you stay a miner with the skill set up as it is now ?

I was so excited about this skill when I first spec'ed into it. The drop rate of diamonds from cobble was really nice. Okay so it was a bit high, I was picking up diamonds left and right, but now I have only seen 1 in about three weeks of mining on the weekends.

When I hit 55, I will be turning to another profession, miner just is not worth it as it stands now.

Give proper suggestions on how we should improve it and not off-set the economy. The original skill amounts were GROSSLY wrong and have been retuned to fix it.
Currently:
5% chance to get double ore at max level
0.01% chance to get a 'rare' drop from stone.

Well, the 'rare' drop from stone could be upped by a minor amount couldn't it? At a 0.01% you get a rare drop every 1000 block you mine, but I did notice that it was changed today, because I actualy got two drops when mining(mined for about 2 and a half hour). So I'd say that having it at 0.275 would be pretty balanced, as you'd get 27.5 drops per 1000 blocks you mine, 2.75 per 100 blocks, 1.76 per 64 blocks you mine.
Or, you can half it from there. So 0.1375, 13.75 per 1000 blocks, 1.375 per 100 blocks, 1.1785 per 64 blocks you mine.

Other from that, double drop rates are pretty low, at 5.5% you'll get 1 extra drop every 18.5 ore you mine, pretty low if you ask me.
I guess you could upp the light duration, since its kinda annoying having to type in the command every 20 sec while mining.

Why not an ability thats passive for lvl 55 miners to mine 2 blocks in a row rather than one or some kind of passive mining speed increase at 55 Im not so much worried about abilitys that give me shit rather abilitys that assist with my mining someway and for miners i think more passive than timed because something that last 5-20 sec unless it affects drops wont hurt giving us like i said at 55 a passive ability that doubles our mining speed ya know something worth while for people like me that spend 95% of my in game time underground. Or heres an idea lvl 55 miners are the only ones who can mine BUT NOT KEEP bedrock so we can smooth out the base of the map for underground areas the further down the more benifical ya know. Or a passive ability for miners at 45 that (since we fall in lava all the time mining) halfs the damage we take from falling in lava that way less chance of dying when mining that would be a life saver really. Or a lvld ability that lets us repair our own tools like say we are able to repair any 3 tools each day so that way we can set aside 3 diamond picks and repair them ourselves ya know. But these are just ideas i have alot more lemme know what ya think if you dont like i can post the rest of the ones i got see if there any more to your taste @Kainzo

I like this idea but so that did not encroach on the Smith profession why not make the repair regent higher then it is for Smiths? If it is possible and not too much trouble to add the coding to allow us to fix only 3 pickaxes, or whatever.

yes if you give us a small limit on repairs smiths will still be needed its not like were making them useless theyll still be needed just with the amount miners mine 3 picks would help

imo the issue is enchants, not mining.

Enchanters only have eff and unbreaking left for pick enchants.
Loot and Knockback on swords.
Fire resist on armor.
Not to mention after every enchant of worth was removed the cost was adjusted to 3x the amount of xp.

I think the designers have done enough with enchanting.
Let us lick our wounds in peace for a bit.
