Suggestion [General] - NPC Combat Class

Soo...... in anticipation of the new map, I would like to reprise I suggestion that I made almost a year ago:

Could there be a way for people to aren't into PvP to NOT select a regular combat class without being horridly penalized for it?

Formerly, I had suggested that players be allowed to just double up on Profession classes, and forgo a Combat class. That suggestion did not gain any traction, primarily due to coding concerns. IIRC, it would have required creating a duplicate version of all of the Profession classes and a number of other things that just got messy from a coding standpoint.

And that is a standpoint very well taken!

Would it possible instead, to create a new Combat class (or Path or whatever) for pacifists? This would then still fit within the current "pick one Combat class and one Profession class" coding schema.

As far as the details of the Pacifist class... well, I have ideas but, before getting into that level of detail, I would welcome some feedback as to whether or not this suggestion is even feasible from a coding standpoint.

Thanks!

If all else fails, I will hang around and "stand guard" ... and put up signs "your tax dollars at work". Every public works project needs people standing around, after all.

You have to have a yellow hardhat, and maybe a "Foreman" title to go with it

Heh. I tried the yellow hard hat thing! For some reason people kept assuming that it was a gold helmet and tried to kill me for the loot. Kids these days...

If I were to sneak while holding a spade, would it look like I was leaning on a shovel?

i don't like the idea of having a PvP off class. It would remove the hardcore aspect of the server because most people would go it to get rich.

If you are asking for a class that is immune to pvp, i don't see this happening. Having people below level 10 having regions in a town you are raiding is extremely annoying. They can block off death chests, block you in, steal gear and be a general nuisance; if someone could do this as a fully functional player, not just a noob it would be stupid.

We will be bringing out the Adventure map, which will be primarily PVE. I will give more thought on a way to bring out a no-pvp/building map. I don't want to clash hard on the views of the community. We've never considered ourselves a PVP server but more of a more difficult RPG experience.

Well, so much for the "let's determine if it is even possible before getting into details" idea. Lots of good feedback on potential wrinkles to the new class, but no comment on if it is easily code-able. :(

But okay -- I did NOT envision this to be a class that is immune to PvP. I agree that PvP-immune players wandering around in combat zones would be very annoying and open to abuse.

Instead, I had envisioned a "combat" class that would have:

1. Nerfed weapons stats == unable to use any diamond, and damages max out at 1/2 to 1/3 of a regular combat class. So, enough to have a go at defending against mobs, but no chance against other players.
2. NO damage causing skills.
3. ONE special skill called "BraveBraveSirRobin" or "Panic" or something like that that would, upon activation, cause the first PvP hit to teleport the Pacifist to Spawn. Mob hits or environmental damage would not trigger the effect. PvP hits from people in your town or party would also not trigger the effect. Thus, it is still entirely possible to kill a Pacifist. Either a surprise attack before the Pacifist can activate BraveBraveSirRobin or a massive damage one-hit that triggers the teleport would do the trick. The skill gives the Pacifist a chance at avoiding being killed, at the cost of the inconvenience of being booted back to Spawn.

If this still seems too "convenient" or OP, perhaps the teleport could be to a randomized spot. Hmnn. Better give Pacifists some version of safefall, too, if that is the case. :) Moreover, if the teleport is a random one, there is no reason to disallow activation by mobs, party members, or townies. If the Pacifist is being sent to a random spot, it is hard to see how this could be exploited. Players who BraveBraveSirRobin away from PvP would not be able to quickly return to harass PvPers, nor would use of the escape mechanic make it any easier for Pacifists to get rich.

Sooo... sound fair? Balanced? Reasonable? Codeable?
