I'll give it a go too! Not sure if it will be ready in time--Uni has finals all this week and next week--then work when I get back home. I have a really awesome idea though.

edit: Dago, would you mind posting a .zip for us mac people? Not sure what to do with a .rar on a mac. Got it, Final, thank you!

Progress so far is a little slow. But from Saturday up to Tuesday, I have no work. :eek: Here's hoping I can get in as much construction as I can!

...even if I don't make the deadline, I wanna finish this dungeon anyway. This project is too good to simply throw away...

Sorry for the lack of posts, super busy week.

To answer questions:

1) no TNT is not allowed

2) no dungeons from the contest will be copied to herocraft, this is just a contest to get on the spell team, and all dungeons are made with legit materials either gathered or bought. You are paid for your work on dungeons, and reimbursed for materials you had to buy as long as the purchase was approved.

3) I've decided I'll start the judging on Friday the 13th, and you guys will have until that following Monday to submit dungeons for review (giving you the weekend to work your asses off to finish the dungeons, thank me later :p )

4) macs can do .rar, and thanks for the link to the program xFinalx.

5) Generally we design dungeons so they can be completed solo, but you could, say, use wooden pressure plates that a person would need to drop items onto to trigger so they can continue. And yes, you can design a dungeon so that someone would have to bring along their own minecart, that's already been discussed among the current spell team.

6) Yes, anyone can make dungeons if they really want to, but they will not be eligible for spells unless you are on the spell team, and they will not be server-recognized dungeons. If you want to make a dungeon under your home for shits and giggles, go right ahead.lol

7) Yes, netherrack + power = fire on herocraft, so you can plan a dungeon accordingly if you so wish, just be sure to mark that it's a netherrack fire trap in the room, since it won't work in SSP.

8) Yes, riddles can be used. Dgco has made use of Zodiac based riddles and such in a couple of his dungeons to wonderful effect.

9) If it is highly visible, it also needs to be highly difficult (Castle Greyskull ftw). That is not to say that a well hidden dungeon doesn't need to be difficult, all dungeons should be difficult, but if it's a Highly Visible/Obvious dungeon, even more so.

10) It can be as hard as you want. We have made many dungeons in the past that some people simply cannot complete, while others have no trouble at all because they are really good at problem solving. In general, design them to stump players completely, but they still need to be possible to finish. If only one person ever completes the dungeon, it is not a failure, in fact it makes that spell even more desireable, but if EVERYONE completes the dungeon without much effort, it would be re-designed or torn down.

Well I will try something since I recently got my Architect title.
But be warned I will be using a lot of Redstone in my Design.
One more Question, does the dungeon have to be able to let people out once they get in?
I was thinking of creating three different paths, giving people a choice ranging between Hard to Ez where Hard is shorter but harder and Easy is just longer but less deadly. using the soul sand trick or Gate, which will prevent people from going back.

I ain't really building the dungeon design since that can always be changed or the layout, more like ideas of Quizzes to incorporate and skills in MC (jumping, problem solving, quick reflexes and maybe shooting (just put a shop there))

yes you can make multiple wings in the dungeon if you want, though I don't support the whole 'easier' thing unless it's a pretty basic spell. The design is up to you however, and no, there doesn't need to be a way out. (though usually if there's a dead-end in a Herocraft dungeon, I make a [lift] sign that will remove them from the dungeon entirely so they have to start over, but don't have to /kill, /spawn, /gate, /recall, or whatever.

and MOAR REDSTONE is fine :p. I utilize design, layout, and redstone in dungeons, all of it counts.

1ST day of judging gone by, no submissions. Morning of the 2nd day, no submissions.

Hope you guys are just using the extra weekend to improve the dungeons, was kind of expecting some submissions by now, wanted to start judging.lol

You have until the end of Monday (midnight) to submit your dungeons, and you can start submitting them NOW if they are done and you have no changes to make. Once submitted, I will not let you submit an updated version, so have it done when you submit.

Snowdrift Manor was abandoned due to global warming and poor drainage. Adventurers can still enter the home through the ice and experience snow, fire, and... pork chops. The dungeon is a manor with 3 rooms of several levels and in the last room the centerpiece is a redstone controlled water dispensing machine. Most of the difficulty with it lies in mob spawners, exploration (take the signs telling you where to go and what to do down!) and jumping puzzles. There is a readme file in with the save folder.

I went with a water-themed dungeon. (Using blocks such as ice, snow, lapis, ect.) As for traps, I tried to make it so that it doesnt require any plugins or anything, just in case one of the plugins break, like ice block jumping, a labyrinth, and ladder jumps.

Sure thing, will look forward to it. I've just got a lot going on with my guild in WoW right now, I've barely had any time for Minecraft at all just lately. :x

I finally pulled myself mostly out of WoW, been a fanatic for 7 years but I need to focus on more important things. I still level my toons and run the occasional heroic, but I'm in a previous guild of mine again, all casual, a few learning-stage raids, and all the guild perks. I've barely done anything in Cata, and I only really play to level my toons now. Cata is an unfinished beta, it's a great concept with great potential, but with poor implementation. I'm moving to SW:TOR as soon as I can, I'm praying to get in on the Beta.
