Back in the day, our railway was a secret, you had to go underwater to get to it, and it was very uncommon for something to happen to it
then we decided to make it public, made a public entrance, put in the shops,
since then it has been nothing but trouble.
rails get greifed/stolen
people leave pathways open onto the rails so you get stopped by a skelly on your trip to 1.8 lands
people break the redstone circuits that power the rails and don't repair
people leave crap on the rails, like cobble which stops the minecart as it goes past
and in general, the area around the rails is more heavily mined than most other areas
what I'll probrobly do, is start a tunnel in an undisclosed location, that is less mined, move the whole system of rails to there
I don't understand why we are "soft" on greifers, there is no end to minecraft players, people turn 14 every day you know. My experience on every multiplayer server is the same, admins talk about in the rules and in game how they are so tough on greifers, but then warn them multiple times before anything ever happens, god only knows what the admins don't find out about, it kind of puts a bad taste in the mouth of good players who wouldn't dream of greifing
I think that you should handle greifing as follows.
The first time you get caught, an admin pops you into a jail that you can't recall out of that is in the center of zeal, then they take your entire storage room and empty the contents out into a massive pile in zeal and alert the server to come get it
the next time you just get a permaban
