Bounty System

T

Well, today I put a couple bounties on people. It was quite a fail considering those players did not get affected at all. So I have a few ideas to make the bounty system be more enjoyable/rewarding and adding a new kind of warfare into Herocraft.

Accepting Bounties: Accepting bounties should cost 30%-50% of the bounty, players are accepting bounties and are getting so many rewards when really all they could lose is a couple coins.

Bounty Time: When a Bounty is placed the bounty stays there forever. It kind of gets annoying to see the list full of bounties from weeks/months ago. We could make it so that the bounty last for 3 real life days. Also, if the player that is being hunted kills one of the hunters that have accepted the bounty can take so much time off the bounty so that the prey has a chance to get rid of the bounty. You could say he would have his freind accept it to take off time, I see your point there but that is why the bounty should cost 30-50% of the amount that the bounty is so they will lose money if they tried this tactic.

Economic Warfare: The way I look at it and I know some others do as well is that a bounty is essentially a waste of money. You obviously have a reason you want to place the bounty on someone and really nothing can be done to them. My suggestion is to make it so when the player does get killed by someone that has accepted the bounty then the player that died loses 40%-65% of the actual bounty this in my opinion would give another use for coin, the player can also go into the negatives from this, There really is not much you can to attack someone with coin, I guess hire hunters etc but those really do not work well. This would be a AMAZING aspect of the bounty system to actually give a purpose to putting a bounty on someone, and getting your revenge ;).

These are just my opinions and a few others. Please post your opinions and thoughts on these suggestions.

Last map there was an Outlaw System, where if you got so many kills, you became an outlaw. If you got killed by another outlaw or player, you lost roughly 10% (I think) of the money you were holding. I liked that. Maybe bring it back in?

I like this idea, however 10% can be a huge payday, plus what if those kills were in self defense, like killing town raiders?

The price being raised to 30-50% of the bounty would make false bounty collectings more normal. When you place a 2000c bounty on victim there are not gonna be that many people willing to pay 1000c for a chance at it. The only people who would go for that are his friends (false bounty collecting), someone retarded but rich, or someone who is 100% sure he will get the bounty which will likely never happen.

Well I myself only accept the bounty once I find the target and work out a strategy, both getting in and out alive :) TBH if you don't do that your just risking it, and if something goes wrong your basically screwed.

Example situation:

Player A puts a 1000c bounty on player B. Player loses 1000c. Players C,D and E accept the bounty, and each lose 500c for accepting it. D gets B, collecting 1000c.

A spent 1000, C, D and E spent 1500, and D collects 1000c, resulting in a gain of 500 for D but a loss of 1500 for the players as a group. Tweaking this to a 30% fee to accept gives us a 900c loss.

That's... probably of consequence. Don't know how it compares to the current system or long-term effects, but I enjoy tight economy systems. This ain't tight. It reminds me of that Discworld book, Making Money, where they have the glass model of the city and the water inside keeps disappearing.

What if the person who plaed the bounty got a portion of each acceptance fee, and/or the person who kills the target gets part of each acceeptance fee? At the very least, could any cash that would be shot off into oblivion be transferred back to an admin for use in banking?

I always thought the current system was pretty odd/broken. Why place a bounty which his friends could collect, or which may go unanswered, when you could just post in the forums or in chat, then send whoever kills him/her the agreed upon amount?
