You need to remove the lava and see if you have a hole in the bedrock. And then do something with it. Even if it's only a trash disposal. Because do YOU have a hole in the bedrock? That's what I thought.

we can't have a hole in bedrock, notch added a full adminium layer under the usual bedrock a while ago, it's not possible anymore to find wild holes

I recall something about a glitch involved in the generation of lava pits, where you could find non-bedrock blocks on the lowest level of a world. It may be old and fixed at this point, but I don't remember anyone saying so.
