In my opinion I find that the beastmaster is the superiority in the the rogue path. Having better wolfs and a bow makes the ranger useless.

You might not know this, but anyone can get wolves. Beastmaster just has the ability to get them easier.

Also! Ranger's firearrow is a great skill. As well as track. Always useful.
I can see a group of 3 beastmasters beating a group of 3 rangers in PVP, but still Ranger is a decent class. I find Thief being an appealing class for rogue as well. Go on a raid, sneak into a town while your party distracts them(probably a party of warriors) and then go nuts with backstab
