Notch has confirmed that the new stuff that's being released with the 1.8 update will need freshly generated terrain, if not a new world.
What are you guys planning on doing if this is true...
(Got this off another website, don't know if it's true or not..)

Possible solution: "Herocraft: The Multiverse" - Warshard and the others (when implemented) should cover that if it's true.

Ya, that's what I was thinking...but, if there was a way to put it on the main map without starting over, you guys should do that.

Multiverse + generating new terrain could fix most of the problems...Otherwise they could try to regenerate chunks that have not been built on and are simply mined into.

We always intended to expand the map beyond its current 2,500R limit so it's not really an issue.

Assuming of course our current seed actually allows for Ravines to be generated but I don't see why it wouldn't, an issue to be tackled once Notch finishes breaking the game again.

Lol gonna be just like the 1.5 update(think that was it? lapi one) where the world was expanded and the chunks were screwed up. Random cut in half mountains and crazy landscape.

But really like the others said I think Kain will just slowly expand the map with updates or use multiverse more.

Here is a crazy idea (when the time eventually comes for a new map)
Rather than a sudden wipe maybe:
A new map created with portals linking to it, no new towns allowed on the 'old' map and all existing towns have to 'migrate'to the new map (if they want to) by a specified date. After that date the old map is archived and removed from play.
