[Skills] Miner Profession abilities
also, maybe theres already an ability or potion thats like this, but in Terraria there is an "Obsidian Skin Potion" which makes the consumer immune to lava. There could be an obsidian skin ability for miners.- Steamed

This. And some more hints, dont walk on the main roads, keep trying, watch your back etc. I got killed three times trying to exit spawn but now I have a cozy little home thousands of blocks away.
