    One way to decide- not the only way- is if you were told by someone building the structure that it was supposed to block a view, reduce accessibility, etc., even if it is useful.

    For item durability display, press F3+H. You would need to hover over it in your inventory though. If that's what you want, good, if you want it to display the durability in your hand or on your body as armor, then i agree. It should be added.

    Griefing Question

    I think one reason that killing livestock isn't considered griefing is because you CAN'T replace them unless you're a farmer, and it would still take a while.

    As falker has said, it isn't that expensive, nor would anyone buy just one set. 100 coins would get you about an inventory full of chain mail, if not a double chest full.
