Like @LightningCape said, if you want security, you should join a town. While in a town, you can build up your resources until you have enough to start your own town. You can't expect to be safe in the wilderness - you might get tracked.- Jack_Reacher

@Kainzo mentioned "Shroud of the Avatar" in a different thread, and it looks cool. It won't be released until October 2014, but the people who are developing it have a long history of other RPGs - Ultima Online is one of them. It's kind of an old game, but it looks cool.
