I always thought that it'd be a cool idea to have a server event take place in somebody's town, like just randomly select a town and then BAM, mobs everywhere. But of course letting anyone into the town could allow them to steal, set mark, etc.
But abandoned towns would be the perfect locations, especially ones that have been griefed to hell and look decrepit. ie the perfect setting to have an event. It'd just be a lot more interesting than doing them in an empty field.
Just throwing this idea out there.
