When do we get to go to the nether?

So has the nether been opened yet and we need to find a necromancer? if not when can we expect to be able to travel to hell? I've been smacking my arm for weeks and it doesnt help that the rubber band around it has turned it purple. PLZ I NEED A BUMP O that NETHER!!

Oh yeah! I hope the Nether will be better looked after than the previous one. That was mainly cobblestone bridges and junk! Also, we are getting the previous map as a museum along side the Nether right?
