What defines proper support for floating structures?

i have been curious as to what proper support is?
here are my thoughts as to what it could mean.
1. pillar of good size attached to it ( not one block )
2. ( heard about this one) giant fans keeping it aloft
3. wizards coming by to recharge crystals that keep it afloat
4. anti-gravity- magnetic something dirt from extreme hills
5. whatever mods decide
6. self sustaining crystals( glowstone)

1. Should be significant and an obvious architectural addition
2. Viable and used before
3. The crystals must be obvious
4. Should look like the land was ripped out from the earth and made to float
