I just voted for the first time (quiet, I have trouble with captchas) and noticed after 4 days, Herocraft has only gotten 150 votes. Granted we are in the process of opening a new map, which is brutal on activity, this is pretty awful for a server of our size. Considering each member can vote twice a every day (e.g. 10AM, 10PM) and we have at least a hundred members who are on pretty much every day, I don't think it's unreasonable for us to average 500+ votes in 4 days.

Now, it's impossible to beat the "top" 4-5 servers, since they undoubtedly use proxies to stay there when challenged by real servers, but we can do a lot better than #54 in 4 days after the monthly vote wipe. This thread is to discuss ways to get voter participation up.

To kick start discussion:
On a different game, the game masters would hold contests and events if voting goals were met. For example, if the group made it to the top 3 in the list, the a jump contest would be held where player could compete to win prizes. Not exactly easy to replicate in minecraft, but similar ideas might work. There are plenty of blocks that aren't obtainable that could be handed out monthly to winners. Additionally: plain ol' cash prizes or rare materials, experience, temporary titles, rental on special plots or market stalls, etc.

Is it only once a day? It notified me that I could vote in 11:xx hours as soon as I had voted, so I figured it was every 12 hours.

Most of the time i just dont vote because i forget. But when people remind me in /ch o i vote.

One way to make it more fun could be (if possible) to make a drawing. If you vote 5 times a week you get 5 times higher chance to win than someone who voted 1 time that week. And the winner could get like 50-100 coins. That means you get the 6 coins for voting + chance to get a nice bonus.

Can use your phone - or pass your phone to your roomie and have them vote under their IGN ;)

Sad thing is, the operators of minestatus dont care about proxies anymore :( and they allow them. I know I've been bagging about voting - but to be frank, I'm tired of asking people to vote. Asking 3-5 times a day is too much time out of my schedule.

It would be cool if there was a way to get a chain vote going. Vote on day 1 get 5. Vote on day 2 get 10. If you skip a day then it resets back to 5. :D

I just don't pay attention to minestatus much anymore. It was great when we reached #1 legit, and the influx of members was a reward that I would hope to see again, but it's nearly impossible now that the minestatus operators just don't give a shit about people proxy voting. I mean honestly, how the FUCK does a server get 2000 votes in 4 days? Seriously, these guys aren't even being subtle about their proxying, it's just "WE PROXY, DEAL WITH IT". 5 of the top 10 servers I've never even heard of and have an average of about 40-50 people online, yet they have over 1000 votes....

I've just sort of given up on voting for the time being since it just seems like a waste of time, despite how easy it is.

I totally agree. No matter how much we vote, we will NEVER get to #1..... with..... those cheaters......
They make me sick.

EDIT: I just checked minestatus, if we are between Epic Mushroom and Mine Derp...... we are hopeless.

baaad, you're a guide, you set the example. It's a shame that most of the servers fake it, but being on the top ten alone gets us a influx of members. I've rarely joined a "#1 ____ server", always choosing something around 3-6. The folks that automatically choose #1 and join a garbage community of cheaters dont know what they're missing.

I hope this community never stoops to their level and proxy.

Shame on you if you do. (Also, if you use your name more then once and proxy, isn't that boosting of money? Illegal?)

It may be disappointing/upsetting, but it's the truth. I love this server, but the only way we are ever gonna get close to #1 is by proxy voting, and we should NEVER stoop to that level. Aiming HIGH would be #5, and even that seems doubtful to me at a time like this. We've gotten off to such a poor start, I just think waiting for February would be our best bet to get votes going.

I'm pretty sure minestatus blocks same IPs along with same IGNs. If they don't block same IGNs then that's REALLY stupid.

Current #1 server apparently asks the rest of their gaming clan who doesn't play minecraft to vote. WTF? That's fucking unfair... some other top 10 server was flaming them in their comments section too, not good for both.

I'm giving up on that website, mostly due to the fact that I've found a home, guess where? ;)

Doesn't Minestatus cost money to have the server on? I may be wrong, but if it does that is complete bull shit that they don't do a thing about proxies.
