I just voted for the first time (quiet, I have trouble with captchas) and noticed after 4 days, Herocraft has only gotten 150 votes. Granted we are in the process of opening a new map, which is brutal on activity, this is pretty awful for a server of our size. Considering each member can vote twice a every day (e.g. 10AM, 10PM) and we have at least a hundred members who are on pretty much every day, I don't think it's unreasonable for us to average 500+ votes in 4 days.
Now, it's impossible to beat the "top" 4-5 servers, since they undoubtedly use proxies to stay there when challenged by real servers, but we can do a lot better than #54 in 4 days after the monthly vote wipe. This thread is to discuss ways to get voter participation up.
To kick start discussion:
On a different game, the game masters would hold contests and events if voting goals were met. For example, if the group made it to the top 3 in the list, the a jump contest would be held where player could compete to win prizes. Not exactly easy to replicate in minecraft, but similar ideas might work. There are plenty of blocks that aren't obtainable that could be handed out monthly to winners. Additionally: plain ol' cash prizes or rare materials, experience, temporary titles, rental on special plots or market stalls, etc.
