All mobs (but mainly zombies/skeletons) can inflict plague upon a player within (x) blocks that does about 15-25 damage per 1.5 second(s). These mobs could also have certain skills that can lifesteal/disorient players to continue the plague. Drops for this event could have healthboosts/chance plague infliction with similar effects to mob plague, which would include discs,swords,(not bows cause that's OP), shovels, and hoes with tricks.

If plague radius is too small Rangers and other ranged classes will just dominate. If it is too large then dungeons will just be complete and total death. For the weapons, are you saying to add a poison effect to them? This essentially gives the other classes part of the Runeblade's skills. The weapons idea also kind of slights Rangers. You would need an idea that could encompass all weapons so all classes can benefit.
