The dreadknight paused.

Nothing moved in the jungle, all was still. No trees rustled, no birds sang, no animals called, there was nothing. She turned her eyes to the ground and searched for signs of her prey. A claw mark in the mud, a drop of blood in the foliage, the beast was near. She had been stalking it for half a league but she knew very well that it was hunting her all the same.

Somewhere in the east a roar echoed in the nearby hills and without a second thought the silent knight was dashing toward the noise. Slipping through brush and trees alike her armor appeared weightless for she moved with the speed and agility of any ranger who had walked the earth.

Coming to a river she knew that her prey was trying to throw her off its trail. It was vast in width and pulled with the strongest of currents. Without hesitation she plunged into the depth, her suit of armor dragging her down and filling with water. A dark magic coursed through her body and she inhaled the liquid like air. The weight of the suit kept her in on track as she waded beneath the depths of the raging river, closer to her prey.

Once she reached the shore she was off again in a full sprint. Covering ground with incredible speed, it was not long before she came to her second obstacle: a massive scar in the ground. It stretched far and wide making a jump impossible and redirection lengthy. A nearby tree hung over the ravine; she raced to it and scrambled up it as fast as she could. Once at the highest branch that would hold her weight she peered above the trees. The river swung around to the southeast and back to the north. She would have to cross it again. Looking down at the gorge in the ground she leaped outward and with a puff of dark flame shot across the gap.

She was stunned for a moment as she slammed into the ground and rolled head over heels, landing on her back. Feet planted, pelvis up, she swung her right foot under her left leg and rolled in the dirt. Her hands dug into the soft soil as she pushed up and rose from the ground. Scanning the area she found more signs of her target: a claw mark on a tree, a drag mark in the mud, torn leaves and smashed sticks. She was getting closer.

The dreadknight paused again.

Somewhere in the south a hunting horn sounded scattering a flock of birds from a nearby tree. Another horn sounded in response but this time in the north. A blood chilling screech matched the horns and echoed in the hills. Not a warning but a challenge.

By the time the echo stopped she was already on the move. Her target had issued its challenge and was ready to fight to the death. It was not long before she arrived at her destination. The river had swung around back to the north where it led to a raging waterfall into a massive basin surrounded by cliffs on all sides. The water in the basin was blood red and a hole had been bored into the side of one of the rock walls: the beast's lair.

Without delay she flung herself from the cliffs and plunged into the depths. She had been instructed to wait for the other hunters, but this game was far too easy for her. This kill was hers.
