Now that the map has been up for a few weeks and most people have established themselves as part of a town, with a home and some form of defense against raiders I've been finding myself "less busy" ingame.

I don't see this as a problem, it's nice to have my choice of activities (Mining for gold, grinding exp, look for a fight) however it made me think of the hardcore option in Fallout: New Vegas which keeps you from ever being bored or without a task.

I think it would be great and would add another layer of depth if players needed to eat/sleep at regular intervals in order to stay alive.

Simply put, a timer of say 1/2 hours realtime before a player begins to lose health/die. The timer would be reset every time they consume food ingame, likely with a warning message before they succumb to starvation.

Towns
This would mean that towns would need a stockpile of food for it's residents and that travellers would have to carry food with them for long journey's. It would also give adequate cause for shops that specialise solely in food (Perhaps different foods set the timer back a certain amount).

PvP
It also opens possibilities for raiders, if they can invade and get a hold of another towns supplies they can effectively disrupt that town's daily business as they clamber to get their food in order. On the other hand it means that Raiders are less carefree as they will have to plan ahead.

Thoughts?

I was kind of hoping for something like this. Where you'd have to eat (and possibly sleep) or you'd lose health, or maybe your attacks would be less, and mining time would be longer. I also think food shouldn't heal like it does now, we should depend on healers for our health regaining needs.

I've got some basic knowledge in coding, entering 2nd year at uni on the subject.

I can perhaps see issues with the timer carrying on while the player is logged out, but I don't think that's insurmountable. There are timers already in place for things like mana regeneration and some skills.

But it'd be arrogant for me to say it'd be easy (I know Kainzo likes to say "You code it then").

We've had a poll on this before. Just no. I've stated my reasons before In this thread.

*Quick Copy and Paste*
There has been a suggestion like this before and like then I believe we should not implement a hunger system.
It's not really appealing for new players say half and hour or even a hour if you really want, walking along then dying.

1) Because they are new and getting food won't be there first priority.

2)The food system won't add another layer of challenge but be just a pain more so for expierianced players when they are mining or are doing town projects.

3)From what I see people die often enough on the server take me for example with me falling to my death. Most of the time my /home command is recharging and I am unable to get back adding this new command will mean even as I am walking back I will die because I won't have any food on me. Basicly putting me off playing the server at all.

So my conclusion is that this is not a good idea and will not make this server more 'Hardcore' but it will just be a pain , In total it will have more negative effects than positive. Also by doing this you will lessen the more thrilling and harder part of this server such as pvp. Because as they are fighting he won't die of pking but of hunger most likely.
Realism is not going to help the server what we need to do is get the multiworlds finished then the server will become more difficult.

I rest my case.

I'd disagree, if players are required to maintain their avatar from time to time it will mean PvP has to become slightly more organised, likely lessening the murder count. Not that I think "People die often enough" is a good argument to begin with.

Hardcore to me means more difficult, with added complexity, so it being something to manage while you construct cities is perfectly reasonable. We're not talking about half your inventory stocked with wheat or bread, one piece of food an hour? It's not impossible for anyone, especially if they join a town. It'd be good to have a more grounded playing ground, where it isn't a case of just running in a direction, sword in hand.

Honestly with the exception of brand new players I can't see many people dying through starvation were it to be implemented, new players manage to read and abide the rules that appear in Zeal, this would simply be another sign to read. The suggestion isn't meant to be "one more thing that can kill you" I thought of it because it would require extra thought being put into large projects, travel and general survival. As it is, the lone raider with a stone sword and a hole with a bed in it can succeed just as easily as the large group that built a full city together.

Yeah I didn't like the "hardcore" mode in fallout, and I don't think it's be very good in here either.

I remember hearing something about that, too, Kain. But I thought it was going to be added as an additional mode - Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard, Realistic.
I haven't looked up any recent news on the subject, however.
